Parkers are just the best IMHO, but they're very expensive and the looks ain't that great... I also feel like having a short-scaled guitar for once (I'm a strat man)

For your first time, you probably wouldn't want to cut your own body, but you can at least buy the individual parts from ebay or http://www.stewmac.com/ for cheaper than a Gibson Les Paul.

Damn I cant believe Im agreeing with shroomism, but I must say. I like my schecter classic better than the Les Pauls ive played. The only guitar I thought played better was a prs my friend owned, though that was a while ago so maybe id feel differently now

I have an epiphone Les Paul standard plus that I never play anymore because it just doen't feel right FOR ME. I did replace the pickups because the stock ones were trash, and it sounds good, but I just don't like the feel and the tone of it for my playing. It is all about your style and your fell man. Try all three of them out with different setups and stuff, see which one you REALLY like. In my exp. you have to buy the guitar that really suits you, not the one that is the cheapest. Also, there are a lot of differences in Epiphones and Gibsons. All Gibsons are made in the USA in their factory. Most Epiphones are made in Korea or China. The quality is a lot better in a gibson. I have neve played a Parker so I really can't say, but I have heard good things. Hope this helped.

schecter's are cool. I got a schecter gryphon. Its alright. I like the playability of shecters.

What's the difference between an epiphone and a gibson?

An epiphhone takes about 30 minutes to make.

A gibson takes about 30 days to make.

id also pop some emg 81 and 85's on it due to the fact i play harder music and they give me the exact tone im looking for. I wont play any other pickups since i discovered emg's.:rockon:

EMGs are cool i like the ceramic, but i like the crunchier tone that i get from standard hums.

You should get a nice body that you like and a neck that you feel comfortable playing with and then install your own pickups. You will save much money.

If you're ever contemplating "budget guitars" check these out. They sound and play AMAZING for the ridiculously low price. It could be something to hold you over while you save to pay for a brand name that's made in the same factory by the same workers only thirty feet from these guitars.

I'd hit up a lot of different stores and find one that sings. Whether or not you should buy the parker over the LP is really up to you. The biggest decision you'll have to make is whether or not you want that parker. The Parker's got a lot of cutting edge stuff (carbon fiber material, compound radius, piezo options, etc...), but it definitely won't mimic an LP or come close. You'll get a lot of nice versatility but its playability won't be the same.

I have an Epi LP setup in open E for slide work and I also have an R7 Custom that's in standard E. Trust me, when people say that an Epi can sound like a Gibson with a PU change is, quite frankly, wrong. I've got mine modded pretty decently and it has a completely different tonal characteristic than the R7. Not necessarily inferior or bad, just different. Feel wise, it's too hard to compare as R4-8s are known for their thick neck profiles whereas the Standards use more or less a neutral '59 profile.

As for PRS, again, they're extremely different. I considered some Custom 22s, Standards, McCartys, and Singlecuts before getting the R7. They've got some great versatility (especially with the 5 way blender), but to be brutally honest, I didn't find any sound that really appealed to me. It doesn't really give you anything distinct (or at least in my opinion). Great worksmanship, but at this price range it should be expected. Playability wise, they give you lots of options, so you you could very well find something you like a lot.

As for Warmoth, if you're really looking to get an LP sound, you're probably not gonna get it. Warmoth (and almost all parts companies like Mighty Mite, allparts, stewmac, etc...) don't deal with set-neck guitars.

My suggestion to you is to buy used though. You'll cut the overhead off and if you have to resell, you'll make close to what you paid for it (assuming it's in relatively the same condition and hte market hasn't gone to shit). You can get a used Gibson LP Studio or VM in good condition for probably $650-800 easily. Compare to the $450-600 on new Epis, the decision should be made easier.
