Was Yoko Ono's song "AOS" about Owsley?

On Yoko Ono's 1970 album "Plastic Ono Band", she had a track called "AOS", which was recorded in 1968 with someone named Ornette Coleman. My question is, was this "song" about or inspired by LSD king Owsley Stanley (originally known as Augustus Owsley Stanley III)? The song was recorded around the time that Owsley was manufacturing acid, so it could be possible.

As you'll hear, the "song" is just a bunch of typical Yoko Ono noise, but I was curious if anyone knew the real deal behind the title.

I didn't even know who Ornette Coleman was before this. I assume that you're a big fan?

Right on. I don't suppose if you know whether or not this track was influenced by Owsley do you?

I know Leary once wrote he was Secret Agent AOS III, as part of an interview about him getting sent packages containing 100 grams of LSD each. Was he talking out of his ass or protecting Owsley's identity with some deliberate mystification?

But I read Leary called himself A.O.S III at one time.

That Yoko Ono piece gave me vivid memories of demonic posession in The Exorcist II for some reason:smile2:

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if Yoko's head was spinning around while she recorded that. Yeesh.

As for Leary, I think you're just a little confused. Leary wrote an essay called "God's Secret Agent A.O.S.3" about Owsley. I couldn't find it transcribed on the net and it would take a long time for me to type it up. That must be what you're thinking of.

Dude, no shit! You're so right. An Owsley belt buckle is definitely the ultimate hippie bling. I'd love to have one too. His website www.thebear.org doesn't mention prices anymore. I remember them being very pricey though. Might be worth getting one before he dies however.

Duneraver: Yeah, that's as much as I found out about it. Thanks anyway.
