who pays for internet?

my neighbor has a kick-ass signal my laptop picks up and it has been consistent for 2 years... i was wondering if anyone else pirates like this and if there are any dangers they're aware of... anyone?

Used to pirate, then moved to new apt, and have to pay now. It is almost worth it to have very reliable internet without anyone else on it. (I use a TON of bandwidth)

There's a few free wifi signals in my neighbor to leech from, but I'm a major torrent user so I have the decency to pay for my own connection.

I do. $18 a month for 3megabytes down and 256kbps up (which blows, the upload, not the connections as a whole).

I currently pay £25 a month for a 24MB ADSL connection. Unfortunately, im not close enough to the exchange so i only get around 6MB but thats still pretty good.

I have fiberoptic at home, but use my schools internet, so i suppose that would be considered free. Wireless hubs in the hallways of my apartment complex, and a wall plug.

Not so great internet though.

Same here. The neighbors' wireless networks are great to use as external networks to test your own, tho.

If the person is crafty they might be able to access some of your files, but the liklihood of that is pretty low. Similarly, my friend used to drive down the street with his laptop, find non-protected wireless internets and change the people's password so they couldn't use their own internet. That was when vista didn't exist, and I don't know how difficult or whatever it is with that. Not sure what you are running, but that's my 2 cents.
