S.S. (Super Stressed) San Pedro strain
    #8042760 - 02/19/08 12:52 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

So I'm ordering some San Pedro soon, and the location from where I'm possibly going to get them offer a S.S. (Super Stressed) strain of San Pedro.

I would think that this would be a good thing because I've read that the mescy content increases when it is under stress.

Also can you let a pedro sit inactive for periods of time before extracting?

any thoughts, comments would be greatly appreciated!

are you going to eat it or grow it? also you can let pedro sit for a long time with no problems.

my opinion is that they are selling shitty looking pedros as super stressed just to get good money for them, i would just get a nice healthy rooted (or root your own) cutting and stress them out your self if you want a stressed pedro.

i did not have enough room in my greenhouse last year so i had a few pedros that sat in full sun all day long , well that turned them a yellowish color and when i went to sell a few on ebay they did not get as much as the nice healthy pedros. i guess i should have gave them a spiffy name like super stressed or teo's fav Serra blue lol

let us know which way you go.

going to eat some and root/grow some.

also, while on the topic, if i was to eat lets say, a foot section, and find out it has a very high content; as it grows and pups all those should be high content too?

thanks!

im pretty sure its the stressing that causes the high mescaline content, so if the pedro pupped and it was put in a better environment, it wouldn't have as much stress therefore it wouldn't contain as much mescaline as a stressed pedro would.

Just because the PC is "super stressed" doesn't make it a separate strain.

I'm pretty sure that all the evidence on stressing cactus to increase potency is here say...as I have yet to see a single scientific study to test the hypothesis...

What are teo's blue "species" ? He tried to sell me some, and I didn't really go for it.

lol, glad I did not trust him.

I helped him out with something and he told me he would save one for me, and then told me I would have to buy it.

Then he said he would send me some homegrown tobacco, which never happened.

Whoever calls it a strain should be beaten. A strain means a variant in the DNA of an living organism. Are you sure it didnt say 'strained'?

I wouldnt buy pre-stressed cacti either way, i have heard of some real shady shit people do to stress cacti.

SS also stands for a certain vendor for cacti. Are you sure it refers to super stressed?

I have tried the super stressed cactus you speak of, and I had better results just using that same suppliers normal pedros.

Super Stressed? Definately not a strain, but what is it even supposed to mean? That they set some of their stock aside and treat it badly? Sounds like a ploy for making more money from less work to me.

Edit: found it.

Quote:

These San Pedros were completely neglected for about 2 years, in really harsh conditions. And as y'all know, stressing plants builds character.

Looks like they aren't more expensive by the foot than the regular [unrooted] ones.

I've always been happy with this vendor. But I can't speak for the effectiveness of stressing your cacti.

Now dopamine injections, those have been proven to raise potency. It's easy and dopamine is available. I wonder why we don't hear about it more often.

What they say is that it was a crop of Pedros that was left untended for almost 2 years... no care at all. Who knows if that is the right story, but they sure as hell are stressed out way the hell more than any other Pedro I have ever seen.

uhhm how ecactly is dopamine availible?

im pretty sure that dopamine is controlled, perhaps youre thinking of the combination of levodopa and tyrosine, those are the ones that are availible to the general public, and the two are metabolized by the cactus almost as well
