identifying san pedro cactus.
    #2291477 - 02/01/04 10:10 AM (20 years, 1 month ago)

I recently found some San Pedro cactus around my neighborhood. When I tried to match the cactus up with images online, I noticed the images have white flowers. My cactus happens to have purple egg shapped buds on it. It looks like the purple egg will open up into a flower, but im not sure if it will be white like the images online. Can someone please let me know if this purple egg bud growing on the side of my cactus is part of the San Pedro strain im looking for?
Thank you

Doesn't sound like a san pedro, we have some large cereus cacti that grow fruit that is purple, could be what you have. Here are some pictures of the last time one of my san pedros flowered, notice how the bud before the flower blooms is hairy.
This first one is of the bud right when it started growing...

Here it is a few days before blooming...

Here it is as its opening...

Fully open...

Fully open from different angle...

Would the fatness begin to look skinny, if cut pieces have dried up a little?

16 year old thread, and neither poster has been seen in years.

Yes, though...a cactus cutting will shrivel some after a while.
