i think i must look very peculiar to outside observers while i study.

i love music. i have to have music. i can't study in silence because it's just too goddamn boring. i lose my train of thought very quickly and end up bored, mind wandering.

so i listen to music. preferably music without clear lyrics, or no lyrics at all. electronica is good. or some distortion heavy 90s indie/alt rock. sometimes techno, but not quite so much these days. right now i'm listening to ratatat, an old favorite of mine for studying.

when i listen to music, i dance. so here i am in the student union, headphones on. rocking and bouncing and shifting my shoulders about rhythmically while staring intently at the computer screen. i'm sure the coffee i'm always downing aids in the restless behavior, but i can't maintain focus any other way.

i can imagine i look rather strange to the random passerby. have you any strange study habits, compulsions, or pet peeves?

I am precisely the opposite of you.

I can't study w/ any kind of distractions. I gave up trying to study at home in high school. I can't listen to music, or be somewhere there are a bunch of people, or have the TV on, or anything.

No. Fucking. Distractions.

Before I graduated in December, I used to hide in the top floor of the UW library in the way way back corner.

Best place to study ever.

Music is a must when I study.

I study in my room though because I hate leaving the house for reasons other than school or parties.

if i don't have distractions i end up falling asleep. i could have just downed two redbulls and i'd still fall asleep. silence bores the fuck out of me.

i'm fairly certain i have some form of it as well. even though i have to study in an area full of distractions, it doesn't mean i'm studying effectively. quite often my attention wanders. however, i find it's the only way to assure i don't fall asleep for hours, or just sit there and stare at the book.

plus, a driving beat helps to really focus my thoughts.

Yeah, I was thinking music w/ lyrics. I could see how something lyric-less might help.

of course. it's the only way i do it too.

i'm not "studying" per se right now though. i'm skimming over a book i was supposed to have read by last week. it's not a bad book, really, but i cannot fucking keep up with this class. it's a new book every week... granted, they're old school sci-fi dystopian novels, so they're pretty cool. but i have too much other shit to read that much! i'm trying to finish The Sleeper Awakes tonight... still have like a third of it to go.

Luckily my classes do not require me to read much because I am terrible at keeping up with that. I have a Biology midterm this friday I think I am going to start studying Wedensday to save myself the pain. Plus friday I plan on seeing Funkadelic on some doses. :yesnod:

When I study I listen to Pantera, Slayer, White/Rob Zombie, Manson, etc.

A lot of people find that weird.

Boards of Canada are my saving grace when studying.

I can't do hip hop because I either get lost in the lyrics and forget about studying OR I get so much into studying that the lyrics just blow past my ears and the lyrics are what hip hops all about.

THe less lyrics the better when studying just as t_r_b said.
