A good rule of thumb: If you are trying a new wild mushroom for the first time, sautee' and eat only a small bite. If no ill affects, then try some more. Never dive right in to something new unless you are sure about what it is.

but even small amounts of certain mushrooms can be fatal. I would NEVER recommend eating even a portion of a mushroom that you did not know 100% what it was. and sautee'-ing the bugger isn't necessarily going to destroy the stuff that can kill you. A good rule of thumb is to be 100% SURE of what you are picking. infact, I passed up a beautiful patch of stunzii's earlier in the season just so I could check and be 100% sure. unfortunately when I returned, someone else had snagged them. but I would rather NOT have them, than be even the slightest bit unsure, and end up bleeding out of my liver and kidneys. doesn't sound like my idea of fun.

GODDAM MAN!!! You ate mushrooms that you didn't first research about. Maybe you need to become sick so you don't do such a stupid fucking thing again. I'm not a mean guy when it comes to newbies but when wild mushrooms are approached in such an ignorant way you deserve to get sick. What kinda mushroom did u think they looked like? Did they even bruise blue? Let me know if you cough up your liver next week and I'll send a get well card. The Lizard,

First of all, shroom, I completely agree with the others. You were stupid to eat those without positive identification. When your kidneys/liver/other important internal organs shut down, you'll be wishing a) you had ID'd those shrooms, and b) you would hurry up and die. Please be cautious when picking wild mushrooms! Anyhoo, your thread caught my eye becasue I used to live in Billings. I have never seen nor heard of any wild magic mushrooms growing in or around Billings. I wasn't very well versed in mushroom identification when I lived in MT, but I would be willing to bet there were some magic ones in the Beartooths, where I spent alot of time. However, I would definitley not eat mushrooms that grew out of my yard. Perhaps you could try one of the practically infinite cow pastures out there. When I lived there I grew Cubensis and it's possible that some of my spores traveled and found their way into some bovine's stomach. So be careful, and buy a copy of Psyilocybe Mushrooms of the World.------------------ Peace and Love, Baby!
