Gliders

I've had my sugar glider for about 5-6 months now and he's deffinitely the perfect pet for my apartment my mother actually got him for my girlfriend (go figure) but he really is a little bundle of fun, we practically let him free roam in our apartment, since we've made it nearly "Sid-Proof"
i named him SidVicious after the Sex Pistols bassist :-D and the name really fits he came from some random lady who was selling exotic pets at a flea market she seemed to know what she was doing when it came to breeding, but with as many animals as she had, i do believe he was neglected of hand training and was just stuck in a starter cage to ween so he was really skittish for the first few months, and he kept climbing into the insides of our furniture where we had no way of getting him we actually cut our love seat all to hell to try and get to him (we did it very carefully of course) now after alot of spoiling with apples and mealworms, he's quite a bit more friendly, while far from docile. The reason his name fits is because he likes to bite as a way of communication, he only ever once bit hard enough to hurt(my girlfriend's finger must of been tasty) and we punished him by blowing on him and since then, he just does it to play. he considers all hands his adverisary and he'll wrestle your fingers to the death
but anyway do any of you guys have a glider?
do you even know what i'm talking about?

i'll post some pics of my own some time later when i can use a camera

$175 for the glider, a really nice pouch, about a weeks worth of food and pretty much a lifetime supply of glider supplements
then the starter cage was $32.99 at PetSmart
this was kind of a ripoff, because most breeders sell the glider with a starter cage etc for $175 i'm going to look into a ad today that might score me a female for $75 though another breeder has a sale pending, but if it falls through i'll have a chance at a female for $120

yeah I dont have one but i find myself suddenly wanting one
-------------------- He did not laugh as his eyes stopped in awareness of the earth around him. His face was like a law of nature-a thing one could not question, alter or implore. It had high cheekbones over gaunt, hollow cheeks; gray eyes, cold and steady; a contemptuous mouth, shut tight, the mouth of an executioner or a saint. If you wake up at a different time in a different place, can you wake up a different person? Cf. A.C. he's the shit man
don't be fooled, he's nothing like a rodent he's a marsupial (you know, two pronged penis and such) and i would say he's most like a kitten in the ways he likes to play any feathers or anything dangling is prey xD
he's incredibly smart and the ways he uses his hands will make you disbelieve that opposable thumbs seperate us from animals
his problem solving skills are amazing aswell, if you tie a treat to a string, he knows that he can just pull the string up and get the treat at the bottom (we tried to get him to climb the string, little smart ass)
and it's pretty comical how he knows when you know where he is, if you go disturb him in the day (he has a bag full of bedsheets that he chose to sleep in) he'll move to somewhere else and if you find him again, he'll move somewhere else xD

They can be litter trained. I don't know about the oder, but if they are anything like ferrets probably horrible.

Very true, but also it would depend on how tidy and clean you kept them. Removal of certain glands can reduce stench, but that's kind of unfair to the animal hah.

he never bites hard enough to hurt
the litter is so minimal that you'd be hard pressed to find it the mess is only in that he's a wasteful eater, much like parrots
with alot of food, he doesn't seem to even swallow it, he just fills his mouth up and sucks all the flavor out
there's absolutely no odor, he keeps himself very clean, the only odor comes from a poorly cleaned cage, fruit really stinks if it sits in the bottom of the cage for a few days

Really he has no stench? That's odd, but cool. Does he make noise?

they seems like pretty cool little guys. i'd consider getting one, but i know i'm going to be traveling for a while this summer, then again next year, so it probably isn't the best time.

I thought they were social creatures, and that you needed to get at least two, or it would get incredibly depressed.

I read the same thing somewhere, them being social and needing to have two. One of my friends had one and it was by its self, it did seem to act I guess you could say deppressed, but I'm sure if you give them enough attention it would be the same.

misinformation i suppose i've heard the same thing many times but my budget and availability for a non-related mate haven't come togethor yet he shows no signs of depression, i've never heard anything really about any incidents happening with a lonely glider he considers me and my girlfriend as gliders in his family
but yes they are very social creatures, and i can't wait to get him a friend, the trouble is that they're also territorial at first and i won't be able to let them spend a night togethor until the baby female i get is six months of age (breeding age, so there is no rape)
gliders usually have two babies since they have two vaginas, if one is a boy and one is a girl, then you can't keep them togethor but you deffinitely wouldn't want to seperate two males or two females
