You will probably be more lucky to find Panaeolus subbalteatus if you look around the compost heaps and /or haystacks at riding stables and racetracks than in cow manure.

In fact only about 15 to 20 of the known 186 species ogpsilocybian mushrooms actually grow in manure. Others in manured soil and/or woodchips in gardens.

I have no idea wht you ate in Maryland but I really doubt if it was a psilocybian mushroom and withouyt a photo it is hard to identify any mushroom
