Unidentified Polypore: Florida

Hey folks
A friend of mine in Florida found this Polypore, growing from a small piece of Live Oak wood that had fallen from the tree.
Seen here, with the top surface of the fungi and also (in the lower section of the photo) the bottom surface of the Polypore:

The specimen[s] were mailed to me and I had a chance to look at the spores under a microscope. Easily the largest basidiospores I have observed so far. Maybe ten times the size of Psilocybe cubensis spores, and a nice darkish red color which was also interesting. This photograph was made at a unknown (relatively low) magnification, by just scraping a small dusting of the surface of the Polypore onto a slide and then adding a drop of bottled water:

Beautiful spores really. I have not classified the shape of them quite yet. And have not even tried to key out the specimens macroscopically (often a impossible task with Polypores), so, any input would be appreciated

Maybe something like Onnia tomentosa (=Inonotus tomentosus) or some relative species. I'm not certain, it's kind of old, and I'm no polypore pro.

I would call that spore shape ovoid to fusiform (fusiform are thinner and more pointy looking).
As far as identifying your polypore, I'm terrible at polypores, especially any of them that are conklike. I only know of a couple people who are actually good at them (Tom Volk and Hal Burdsall).
Happy mushrooming!

yes, i was leaning towards fusiform. very fascinating spores for me to see
there are too many polypore species to really even count
i read that all gilled mushrooms might have evolved from polypores
thanks for the replies, it was more just to show people the spores that i think are interesting
