there is an old croatian saying that i believe i saw in somebodys sig, and it stuck.
"All mushrooms are edible, but some only once."
Bong
IN case this confuses someone it means some mushrooms you can only eat once cuz you will die afterwards.

well, this is not uncommon in Europe....i have relatives that think boiling mushrooms in garlic will show which ones are poisonous.\
kinda funny how old myths still last.

I had a friend that said he once ate green gills... Said he got really sick, but right before hand he became strangely intoxicated, complete with visuals. Then he threw up and shat at the same time.

Dude, yeah, at this nice Italian restaurant I worked at, the owner/chef told me in Italy they saute garlic and the mushroom of questionable toxicity in a pan with some oil or butter, and that poisonous mushrooms will turn black, and if they don't turn black, they are good edibles.......
I told her it was risky business, and most likely an old wives tale, and she got offended..
She obviously took my objective advice, as an ethnic prejudice.
Oh well.

Well experience has lead me to believe these green gill eaters are most commonly found in Florida. There is a special breed of shroomers down there, probably due to excessive amounts of sunshine melting their braincells or something of that nature. Your average Florida shroomer that doesn't have access to the shroomery has no experience what-so-ever in identifying what they find. They just use nicknames and leave it at that. "Purple Ringers" and "Gold Tops" for Psilocybe Cubensis and that is about the extent of it. Also it is very common for numbnuts in Florida to go out and collect random mushrooms and eat them in the field as they go along, or bring them home and bet their buddies to eat some to test them for psychoactivity. Which is of course extremely stupid. But commonly happens.

Interesting. There is one report The Worldwide Distribution paper written by John Allen and friends, that claims C. molybdites eaters in Africa have reported psychoactive effects after consuming them.

I wonder why the majority of poisonings there go unreported.
Yeah, for every one person that documents poisoning themselves on the forum, think of how many more there must be who have even less initiative, and don't come here or elsewhere for advice.
