so ive followed EVERY sterile precaution i could think of with this mono this is my grow log to prove it (you dont have to read it)
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7859521/an/0/page/0
but it looks like there is a bunch of cobweb popping up. i dont know why this is occuring! what causes cobweb to show up?
i know its treatable but i shouldnt be seeing any of this.
does it even look like cobweb to you guys? or more of a light mycelium waiting to whiten up? damn!

Man, that looks like cobweb to me. I would break out the H202 mister and at least mist one area. Remember, H2o2 is lethal to cobweb mold and only irritates the hell out of mycelium. If it dissolves instantly and even sizzles a bit, you'll know it was cobweb, if it just stays there and flattens down, it is mycelium. You'll be able to sleep better tonight. Or you can wake up tomorrow and see it it has tripled in its amount of colonization and you'll know for sure that it was cobweb.

Just to let you know why I think it's cobweb. The top left corner of the picture is gorgeous rhizomorphic growth protruding from the substrate up through the casing layer. That other stuff looks like its growing on top of the casing layer, (not protruding from underneath the casing layer.

Lack of FAE ! (oh and a few spores ) But easy to get rid of.

We're talking microscopic organisms. It's fairly easy for accidents to happen. Don't stress so much.
Expect contaminations sometimes, if you grow. Period. I don't care how sterile your methods are.

is it really from lack of fae though?
now i have it in fruiting conditions with a fan oscilating in the room. but there really isnt any mycelium poking through the casing layer yet.
should i leave it in fruiting conditions or put it back in the dark to incubate some more? im worried if i do that though the cobweb will come back

The incubator isn't heated is it? It shouldn't be. And yes, if the mycelium has not reached the surface yet, you should let it do so before fruiting, or you will probably have a sparse pin set. Just spray it down with peroxide every day until the peroxide is completely gone. It usually takes a few days to completely kill it off.
And yes, FAE is crucial in warding off cobweb mold during fruiting. You don't want to have to spray the mycelium with peroxide every day when you are trying to get the thing to pin.

well its a walk in closet with a space heater that stays around 75.
you think it came from lack of fae during colonization though? i know fae is crutial during fruiting to ward off molds. i never get molds during fruiting because im always handfannig but i though your not supposed to open mono's during colonization.
do you recommend hitting with peroxide every 12 hours to ward the cobweb off?
i think i got a bad print. it happens every time when i use this print.
thanks for the help CC. i really appreciate it buddy.

No, not as a preemptive measure. Hit it with peroxide every 24 hrs, IF you see cobweb. When the cobweb stops coming back, stop misting it with peroxide. It irritates the mushroom mycelium.

FAE is the key to staving off contams, cobweb hates it...also you can keep it at bay better if you drop the temps down below 75ish. GOOD LUCK

OK- FAE isn't the correct term. Fanning for more evaporation, though the casinglayer does not look overly wet IMHO. Care must be taken not to distribute spores AND/OR mold mycelium.

No one noticed he has a MONO with a HEATER?
Your rolling at 75 in a closet- your core of your mono is gonna be 80-85- thats too much. Use all the FAE and h202 in the world, but if your baking your substrate like that, everything else (that you don't want) is gonna germinate also.
Do NOT heat your mono tubs- they provide their own heat due to area and volume. You should be able to feel the heat rising off the substrate.
You only use a heater if its in dire need-like your house is freezing and you need to take the chill off- thats all it should be used for, not to apply heat- at least with mono tubs made to the correct specs.
If you need heat- search "HEATBOMB"
