confusing cobweb with mycelium?

ok, I think I may have just threw away a perfectly good cake because I thought it had cobweb all over it and it may have just been mycelium. the white substance on the side of my cake looked like puffy strands, does cobweb ever point straight out and get long and pointy? the color was whiter than the mycelium and had a differnt tint than the mycelium.. I could of sworn it was cobweb right away, because there was a little bit of green mold growing on the bottom but that was just because the cake got too wet from being on the perlite and there was a tad of dry verm that wasn't colonized...

anyway, does cobweb ever have the points like I described? does it grow outward in points or just fluffs? this dosen't look like any of the mycelium on any of my other cakes, but then again it is a differnt strain that i've never grown before.

Sounds like rhizomorphic growth, you want that. Cobweb is grey.
