Art is so expensive!

So I just moved into an awesome new place, and I had a bunch of furniture delivered and set up and everything is just great.
But my walls are sad! They are just begging for something abstract and colorful and awesome to be hung on them. I love big swirls of oil-paints, something with texture and shape and color.
But everything is so expensive. I don't begrudge the artist this at all. I realize its hard to survive as an artist and I realize that this is a part of a them I want to hang on my wall. But everything I really want is so far out of my price range, its not even funny.
I would love to buy some of Papaver's work, but I cannot afford $400 for a wall hanging. But his art absolutely blows my mind.
So does anyone have a source for original art a decent price? Are any of your friends artists? I can ship anything I want UPS for free, so I'd love to hear ideas from folks...

I got some cheap paintings off ebay a few years back. They literally cost around 15 dollars each. And honestly they are pretty decent. The guy now sells his stuff for several hundred dollars, so just search around.

Thats not a bad idea. I hadn't thought of looking for art on Ebay, but I buy other stuff from there all the time.
Thanks.

Why not prints? They serve the purpose of decoration well enough.

I bought a print or two off a guy who frequents the same hookah bar I'm at a lot. I liked the shit I saw him drawing so I approached him and he had a portfolio of prints for sale. I guess you could try going to a coffee shop or some place that would house starving artists and see if you can't find some cheap prints. Not originals, but shit, they look good.

There was a starving artist sale around here a few weeks ago that had tons of oil paintings for $13-$39. Maybe check for something similar in your area.

I have a friend who tags, and I'm going to commission him (aka pay for the paint) to do a piece on a big piece of cardboard that originally backed a poster.

I have absolutely no artistic skill.
None, whatsoever.
My stick people look like mutants.
My brother is 20 years younger than me and could draw better than me by the time he was 4.
I am artistically stagnant.
But I love art.
