whats wrong with art?
    #3137700 - 09/15/04 04:16 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

why isnt this forum more frequented? why are there so few posters here? i would think that a forum about something as artistic and beautiful as hallucinogens, especially shrooms, would produce... orrrr... attract many more artisticly driven people. Im surprised there isnt the same kind of turnout as in the S&P forum. 'Cause to me, mushrooms is half revelation, and half visualisation... half philosophy, and half beautiful, churning, artistic, visual goodness.

know what i mean?

its all the same to me.

most of this stuff is self driven anyhow... you get in what you put out.

and the folks on the S&P forum would say something like 'its an ego massage creating art so you can show it to other people' or they might say 'the novelty of creating art is transient... it will not last like the soul of the universe (said in the voice of Dr Who)'

here is what i would say! "who cares. its all the same to me. most of this stuff is self driven anyhow."

the whole world around us is a churning artistic visual pie of goodness, and the s&p people all know this, deep down, and like to talk about it with each other.

sharing art and looking at art is cool, but what does it all mean?

wait, wait... who cares?

peace

Everything is impermanent and the lust for possesion is psychosis.

Because this site is inhabitted a great deal by people just looking for advice about drugs. The artist is a more rare breed.

well, "real" as in.... what I see as the main reason not many people visit this forum...

most of the artists here (including myself) are still pretty early on in the "career" as artists.... and as such, most of the art posted is only meaningful to the person who created it and maybe a few others.... but it's not the kind of stuff the average person is gonna take time out of their day to look at and comment on.

Of course art is all subjective, though.... so I wont say this is the absolute truth, this is just how I see it.

Can you say I'm wrong? Can you say more people wouldn't visit here if all the stuff posted was of this quality?

*Pleeeaaaase* nobody take this the wrong way. I'm not knocking anyone here. I'm not saying anyone shouldn't be posting what they are. Most of us are still ameteur artists, and while there are people interesting in ameteur art, there aren't that many of them, and so we dont see all that many new faces in here. All the more reason to keep practicing and making art is how I see it.

And yes, I know you can't expect everyone to be a Robert Venosa or a Craig Mullins, but you also can't expect everyone to be interested in all types and levels of art.

Please don't get mad at me for saying this, I have no negative feelings about anything here, and I don't want to stir any. I'm just stating my opinion. There's a hell of a lot of budding talent and potential in here, and I'd hate for this post to discourage anyone from pursuing their artistic goals.

you have a valid point Turd.

but we have been visited by the likes of Ped, Podwarrior, HB and Milky...

i think there would be more high quality Art posted in here,
if some Artists where a little more sharing of their best material.

sometimes i get the feeling that some people are holding back,
because they are Afraid of having their techniques or ideas "stolen"
othertimes i think they are just too damn Lazy to manifest thier genius.

come to thnk of it, this Forum got really quiet,
right about the time The Pub opened.

now everyone talks about music, books and movies in there.

which is fine by me, i  The Pub.

Now MA+L is mainly visited by people that make their own music and art,
which, unfortunately, are a rare breed of Shroomerites.

it's all copasetic though, us Artists enjoy working in obscurity.

Yeah, there aren't many good artists here, and there should be I think. I haven't been here in a long time because it seemed too boring.

well, we could be a little more supportive of each other's efforts.

even the best Artists around here weren't always so good,
they had to develop their technique and nuture their talent.

i once spent two hours resizing and posting my illustrator worx,
the thread got 50 views without receiving one reply.

i was so offended i deleted the thread.

yup, still working on that ego transcendence...

I'm happy with this forum, three sixty...
Collaborations are resurfacing, I get interesting links, I see some on-going pieces, some finished pieces and some very early staged pieces.
I see work from talented people, i see art that needs work, and I see art that boggles my mind. I couldn't be happier.

Also, about the low traffic. I don't think this forum would be the same if people were always postwhooring like in OTD.

That's a good point funky.

If we had the huge traffic that the Pub does, your art would be on the second page by the end of the day.

I try really hard to comment on people's art, and constructively at that. Shroomerites either post their art to show off or to get feedback. I'm not gonna say 'that sucks', but I'll say why I don't like it, or do for that matter. *This* is an important part of this forum I believe.
Some people don't want to take the time out of the day to look at some unkown person's drawing of a tree, but I think that if you want someone to look at yours and give you some words, then you should expect to do the same for them.

Some people are attracted to hallucinogenics and want to talk about how fucked up they got last night, or what huge revelation they had, or what they created as a result of the trip.
Here is the home for those who like to create, and it's my home too

I could only be happier if those whose art I really like posted more.;)
