Alabama Shrooms
    #795282 - 08/04/02 09:01 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

I found some shrooms around the Gulf Shores area of Alabama. They had a redish cap with yellow sponge instead of gills and a yellow stock. I broke one open and it bruised blue in a matter of seconds. I was on vacation at the time. I took a spore print and they were a deep blue color. I found them under some trees only under this type of tree but i didnt know what kind of tree it was. If anyone can tell me what strain this is. The info would be helpful.

A deep blue spore print? That's a typo, right? If not, I know some PhD mycologists who will very much want to examine your specimens. Seriously, if you have mushrooms with deep blue spores, let me know - professional mycologists will have a *very* strong interest in your find.

Assuming it is just a typo, Mr Mushrooms is correct. Blue staining boletes should be treated with caution. If you are considering eating it, be sure you get a good ID to species before you do eat it.

Happy mushrooming!
