T. pachanoi cutting / rooting question.
    #792823 -

Got three cuttings from BBB, one or which was in pristine condition. After I received them; two were planted and one was traded. Both of the planted ones appear to have new fuzzy growth near the top after only like 1.5 weeks. Is this possible. I thought they wouldn't show any new growth until after it began to root. Do they root this quickly?

The one cutting appears to be badly damaged at the top. It is all black (reminds me of a scab), but the rest is in okay shape. Can I expect this one to continue to grow like a normal cactus, or do you think it will sprout pups where it was damaged? (ill post pics tomorrow of this one)

And a last question is if I were to top a cacti of this sort, how long could I expect it to take before pups begin to grow?

Thanks for any help, I am entering a whole new world with these guys.

Okay, cool..

I have watered them once, and wasn?t planniong on watering again for a month, but mothernature decided otherwise, and just unleashed the craziest thunderstorm I?ve seen since I lived in Colorado 4 years ago. So they were watered again just 20 mins before the pic. Hopefully this will be okay?

Here are two pics of each first the damaged one, then the nice one:

Again, the wet look is from the thunderstorm just a few minutes ago, the wound is usually nice and dry.

and the whole thing:

Here is the very nice one they sent:

and the top:

so, what do you think?

the soil mixture is about 50% cactus mix, and 50% perlite. A week after the watering, I noticed the soil was entirely dry, so nstead of watering again, I added the fine sand to the top and put a little water in the bowl the pot sits in. the soil wicked it up nicely. I wish they didn?t get rained on so much today, but hey, maybe it was meant to be...

The 2nd one looks wonderful. My cuttings showed visible growth within a month of planting, if I remember correctly....so don't be surprised that you're seeing new growth. Oh, these guys grow FAST in the right conditions!

I hope the first one isn't a sign of rot.

If you're growing outside, are you familir with the cocept of burying the pots?

It may look like a button mushroom right now, but wait until you see how it grows!

They are indoors. They are in a W facing window (don't have a S facing one ), the temp has been very high lately so the window is open, but there ws a downpour just before the pic ws taken. I really don't think it is rot, I will take another pic tomorrow, after the top has dried. It also seems to be showing new growth, I am just wondering "how" it will grow(or actually what will the new growth look like).
