is the jourdaniana active (i.e., mescaline) same as the williamsii, or not?

As far as I know, there's never been a "proper" botanical description of Lophophora jourdaniana. Most people will tell you there are only two distinct species of Lophophora -- williamsii and diffusa, so it's probably a variety of willamsii. According to THIS, plants tested as jourdaniana do contain mescaline (doesn't say how much by weight, but probably "enough").

There is HUGE confusion on what species there are of the genus Lophophora  -  but that is not unusual in the cactus world.  The International Cactaceae Systematics Group - who determine these things - only recognise two species - diffusa and williamsii.  There are a couple of varieties of diffusa, but none of williamsii.  Jourdaniana appears to be a pink- flowered hybrid, and thus infertile.

However if you look at the catalogue of any cactus nursery you will find loads of species or varieties - many reflecting only the area where a variety is found.

Ask yourself - is Homo sapiens var. geordii - a valid variety?  Just because they live on the banks of the Tyne?

Or is Homo sapiens ssp. magnalobum a valid subspecies - because they have big ears??

Or are they just natural variations of Homo sapiens?

The same happens with cacti.

God luck to you all.  Fly
