nice!!!

How do you hunt those?? Pretty sure that for making oil, you just shave the truffle directly into the oil. It's fat soluble, so give it a few days, and it should be good.

Tuber gibbosum was originally described from Mill Valley, CA (where i live) so I find it amusing that it was named the Oregon White Truffle.

you hunt them with a cultivator rake and a strong back. so far i have:
slightly heat the oil and drop the truffle pieces/shavings in. and keep in a sealed container. just wanting more opinions so i can a best one to try.

both species are referred to as oregon white truffles. so have you found any in your area?

What do you mean "both species"? You mean Barssia oregonensis?? As far as I'm aware, the only "Oregon White Truffle" is Tuber gibbosum.

>so have you found any in your area?

Nope, never looked!

>pic 3: crazy bluing mushroom found on the same hunt, Inocybe?

Hard to tell if it's Inocybe with only a cross section, do you have any more photos?? That looks active. Preserve it if you will. Workman might be interested.

You can make a simple mushroom oil for any oil simply by heating such ingredients in such oil, whether you use delicious olive oil, grape seed oil, sunflower oil or peanut oil., obv such oil's have different heating temps and flavors will compound differently with different oils, personally I like using a rich olive oil, not extra virgin, but straight olive oil, Bella is a brand I personally enjoy, has a rich nutty flavor by itself, but soak some mushrooms of any kind be it truffles, porcini, oysters, chanterelles, in it with some fresh turkish bay leaves, and hot chili peppers, for 8 hours + heating once an hour for no longer then 10 minutes on high and stiring then straining,. you can also play with flavors depending on the shrooms, be it rosemary, or citrus, you can arrange anything with some fungus.

here's a personal recipe of mine;'

Make sure to let the oil cool before putting the cap on.

hey casgoodie, word, get a spore print from the bluieis, if you havn''t done so already, see if they match inocybe spores, which are brown. Sweet finds man, always finding some strange, rare mush. I dig that. What kind of habitat?

the blueing ones were found in the same douglas fir farm as the truffles. they were kind of past their time, so they might not print, actually they aren't printing at all. but the cap is scaly and the gills are brown.

my room is infested with a sexy truffle aroma, i love it!

damn, never smelled truffles before but I've heard good things. I think if it has a scaly cap, brown gills. and bruises blue the chances of it being an active inocybe,
possibly inocybe calamastrata are good

I HATE the aroma of black truffles!!!!

If they come in my car, they better be sealed in plastic- preferably two bags!
