Roy Jones Jr VS Tito Trinidad

Since the Hatton Vs Mayweather thread was such a success, I thought I would discuss the next big fight coming up.

January 12, two of boxing's greats are coming out of retirement. Roy Jones Jr, who ruled the pound for pound ranking for years, until he was knocked out by Antonio Tarver. This made him afraid to take a hit more than ever, and he fought like a scared school girl in his following fight against Glencoffe Johnson, which resulted in Roy Jones getting Knocked out once again. Then he fought Tarver in a rematch, again Jones looked extremely afraid to get hit, and didn't use his amazing skills to seal the deal, he more or less ran the whole time, which resulted in a unanimous decision for Tarver. After this Jones went into retirement in 2005.

Now, we have Felix "Tito" Trinidad. Tito is undoubtedly a great boxer, but he was a GREAT boxer at Welter weight and Junior Middle Weight. After he had beat all the competition in those classes, including a controversial decision over Oscar De La Hoya, he decided to move up to Middle weight and try and beat Bernard Hopkins. Bernard Hopkins made Tito look like an amature, and eventually knocked Trinidad down in the 12th round, which resulted in Tito's corner to throw in the towel and calling it a night. This was Trinidads ONLY loss in his 41 fight pro career. After that fight he beat a half assed nobody for a meaningless Championship Belt in the Middle weight devision and the went into retirement.

In 2004 Trinidad came out of retirement and fought former champ Ricardo Mayorga, and knocked Mayorga out in the 8th round. After this match up, Trinidad fought Winky Wright in 2005, in which Winky easily beat Tito in a descion, handing Felix his 2nd loss and sending him back into retirement.


So here we have two great fighters who haven't been in the ring in 2 years going at it.

Prediction: Roy Jones will make Trinidad look like a chump and send him back into retirement. Roy Jones needed a break to get his head straight and I think thats most likely exactly what he did. After he realized he was beatable, his ego was shattered. He took his time off to train and get over the devastating effects of back to back knock outs, after going undefeated his entire career. Tito is extremely slow footed, and will struggle to keep up with Roy Jones, who has amazing speed, and great foot movement. Most likely we will see the Roy Jones of old come out and absolutely destroy Tito. Tito is naturally smaller and naturally slower than Jones. Trinidad has a vicious left hook that has one hit knock out power, but he can't throw that punch unless his feet are completely squared up. He won't be able to get stationed and squared up against Jones. On the other hand, Jones has no defense, his defense is his offense, which is fast, fast hands, which I believe are even faster than Floyd Mayweathers hands. Jones moves in with his hands down, mocking his opponents to throw a punch, so that he can use his superior hand speed to counter punch the balls off them. I think it will be a Roy Jones knock out win in the rang of 6-8th round.

What was that fight that Roy Jones Jr was in about 10 years ago... I wish I could remember the dude's name... and I think Jr won a title in it.

Jones was basically all cockey at the beginning of one round and opened up his arms and shook around like he was in a rap video. When the opponent got all pissed and was did back in a sort of "fuck you you cocky bastard" way, Jones just exploded on him knocking him all the way across the ring.

What fight was that.. someone's gotta remember what I'm talking about.

Seeing as Teddy was pretty much dead on in his prediction of the last fight I suppose I'll throw some cash on Jones Jr.

Jones fucked Trinidad both mentally and physically. :rofl: That was a damn good fight. Jones proved to be the smarter and better fighter. He let Trini wear himself down throughout the first few rounds and stayed in his head then completely took over and dominated the second half of the fight. :rockon:

What was up with all of the low blows thrown by Trinidad?? I can't believe the ref didn't take any points from him.
