Xanax & Alcohol

I've been known to mix xanax and alcohol before and while I know that it isn't a harmless thing to do, I never would have thought it may cause brain damage. I recently ran across this in an article which stated:
"Xanax alcohol together is sufficient enough to invite alcoholic hepatitis, peripheral neuropathy, cerebellar degeneration, brain atropy, and stroke."
I read this and was like "Woah!" Brain atrophy? Cerebellar Degeneration? That sounds kind of hardcore. Anyone here know if xanax and alcohol induces brain damage? Xanax in itself is harmless to the best of my knowledge and I just assumed that alcohol only enhanced the effects of the drug.

I don't know about alprazolam causing brain damage, but it's far from harmless. It's addictive and the withdrawals can cause seizures and death. Alcohol has severe withdrawal symptoms but you have to be a hardcore alcoholic for that to happen. I would like to hear about the dangers associated with this combination as I have done it a few times myself. I'm sure if you didn't do it very often then you're fine.

I drank and took benzodiazapines for years. I quit two months ago and still have task oriented tremmors in my hands and insomnia. It's like im only twenty three but I feel like a fifty five year old alcoholic. Doing that shit adds decades to your drinking carreer and I think damage as well unfortunately. But I am getting better however very slowly.

I was making a practical observation on this individuals chances of survival. If someone is stupid enough to combine those drugs they will eventually remove themselves from the gene pool.

I would say the same to yourself.

I DID NOT flame anyone. I gave warning. I posted an honest opinion. I am watching my brother kill himself slowly with that very combination. My opinion on the danger involved with it is definitive. If my opinion is not wanted a mod is welcome to delete it or even ban me. Otherwise I state my opinion. If you don't like my opinion tough.
