Substitution Materials?
    #7869740 - 01/12/08 04:44 PM (16 years, 20 days ago)

I'm following the guide located: here.

I searched and searched at Wal-Mart, Target, and Winn-Dixie for brown rice flour, and still couldn't find it. I bought a food grinder and some organic long grain brown rice, assuming this would work. I don't think that's a problem, but if it is let me know.

My true concern is with the Vermiculite. The only bag I could find was this enormous bag (probably 15lb or more). I purchased perlite instead.

Before I start inoculating the jars, I want to make sure that these ingredient substitutions will work. If they won't, I guess I'll have to go back and buy the huge bag of vermiculite. I really don't want that much, but oh well. Thanks!

P.S.: This is my first grow, and I'm using B+

Im pretty sure perlite wont work.... you will most likely have to go back and get that bag of vermiculite..... but i would wait till you get an answer from a more experienced cultivator ect......

The rice to grind into flour is perfect.

If you can get verm in a 15lb bag, go buy it. I wouldn't substitute perlite for verm in a cake...

Over time you'll use the verm up   hehehe...
Keep the perlite for humidity

I do do bulk from time to time. But I like cakes to test out clones and to see if my l.c. is contaminated, testing out new syringes and prints the list goes on and on cuz I don't have a flow hood never really got into agar.

I was just using cakes as an example you can use like 10 pounds in a 50/50 casein.

You want to run your car on water? No problem.

But, forget the perlite idea. Stick with the recipe.

Perlite and vermiculite are pretty much opposites. Perlite will not work as a substitute. Buy that big bag though, because running out of material right in the middle of mixing a batch sucks. Besides, you can use it in bulk subs if you go that far.

You need spawn for that bulk, don't you?
