SATA disk shows up as SCSI disk
    #7864391 -

Half a year ago I bought this Samsung SATA HD.

I connected it using a SATA cable(I had to ducktape it because it is very loose, but I'm quite confident it really is a SATA cable/interface ) and everything worked fine from the start, except that my XP systems sees it as a Samsung HD501LJ SCSI Disk Device and shows it in "Safely Remove Hardware". My friends bought the exact same HD at the same store and they don't have this "problem".

I'm a total n00b when it comes to hardware interfaces/protocols etc.

It works fine, but I'm curious about how and why this happened? Anyone?

The driver used would be a function of the logic board rather than the end device. You would need to compare against somebody with the same logic board rather than somebody with the same hard drive. An example of what might cause this is a logic board with built in RAID. The RAID might show up as a SCSI device (to the OS) even though it interfaces to SATA drives.

My Seagate sata drive is the same, recognised as a scsi device, my motherboard also supports raid aswell.

Its just the OS driver. You dont happen to have an asus board???
