Did anyone try...
    #781566 - 07/28/02 07:04 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

... not to spray casings at all, just leave some wet perlilte or clay pellets at the side and let the casing grow with the only care of venting the casing? I did this because I had humidity issues with other casings (droplets all over my casing, sealing the mycelium), and I have two tiny pins (my very first joy) growing today, the tenth day.

So? is that a method you know of?

I have mycelium growing all over my casing (GulfCoast) and I don?t want to add water as I fear to seal the surface. Have a look (yesterday pic: there were no pins yet, just hyphal knots):

The funny thing, though, is that there ARE droplets on the middle of the casing but not on the sides... but I didn?t spray at all. How can you explain that? Condensation, not enough fanning? (I fan a lot, just can?t get rid of it!)

Isn?t that casing going to give small fruits or aborts because of lack of water? Can I add water by putting a straw or something?

Well, a lot of questions... but I?m a newbie who had many problems with the fruiting conditions. I just need food for thought.
LilMerlin.

What is the reading on your hygrometer there? Your overall humidity might be too high - casings require less humidity than cakes.

I agree with Fanatek... The rh is too high. Take that geolite tray outa there!!

Fan it several times a day and try to get the humidity down into the 80's if possible.

Stop all misting.

Don't worry about the condensation on the top of the casing. It's normal.

But is it wise to inject some water with a syringe or put a drinking straw?

I'm especially thinking about the second flush... I won't be able to give it water if there is so much mycelium and I can't spray on mycelium.

LilMerlin, still pensive.

Cross that bridge when you come to it. You can inject water after harvesting your first flush.
