hpoo vs cpoo

I bought a 50lb bag of Kow brand cpoo from my local home depot when i bought a bail of straw a few months ago with intentions of just "trying it out"

i'd been told that cpoo wasn't preferable because it tends to get muddy and compact too much
so since the cpoo was already moist from the composting i didn't add any water to it, i added minimal water to some verm (bout half of field capacity) and then mixed that in with the poo at about a 65/35 ratio
then i added water to my hand shredded straw and mixed all of it togethor and pastuerized in oven bags

i had great success with this and still am
infact i have an EQ clone bulk grow going now that has huge 4 inch tall pins (not the skinny type either xD)
yes, pins, the veils haven't even started yet

so basically i'm just reporting my success with cpoo and also i want to ask why hpoo is preffered by so many people
also have any of our veterans ever tried them side by side? any concrete facts? any general theories?

You mean Black Kow? Try it without the straw mixed in and you'll see why most people stick to h/poo.

Bagged cow manure works great, provided one does as you did, and adds vermiculite to break it up. The verm also serves as a moisture reservoir within the substrate, so it helps support very nice flushes. You could make it wetter than you did though.

I'm kind of new to mushroom growing, but I know that out in nature cubies grow on cow manure, and very rarely horse shit.

well i must say i'm simply astonished by the performance of the cpoo
and yes fooman i'm talking about black kow

a 50lb bag of black kow costs around 3.50, you can get the store brand for 1.09 at many places

it just seems to me that it's 4$ well spent for not having to go hpoo hunting, then drying it or composting it

i late cased with verm, and used half a spray bottle on it the next 2 days
(if your spray past the top of your tub, it's a great way to mist without directly spraying the pins, good for the RH too)

that's another success report btw

I can't speak from personal experience because I've never tried the stuff, but I've heard of only a few successful grows using Black Kow by itself over the years. But if it works for you, stick with it! It's definitely some cheap shit (literally).

i'm using MooDoo which is composted cow poo, mixed with straw and so far its been working great. colonized pretty fast, not problems so far

i think i'm gonna try that in my next grow. I kinda have 60 lbs of that stuff just sittin in the closet, haha

does the verm provide a fluffy enough substrate at 70/30?

Any garden store locally but I don't live in the US, I live in Spain so it probably won't exist wherever you are from

I have read that Cpoo is not as desirable for consistency reasons, but I believe things can be added to the Cpoo to get the consistency right. Mixing Cpoo with straw is supposed to be better than not using fertilizer at all. Hpoo is supposed to best because a horse has one stomach compared to the cow's multiple stomachs, and it remains more nutrient rich. There are like three variables that aid in mushroom growth, one of them includes Nitrogen. Chicken Poop is supposed to be the richest, but other things need to be added to it. I recommend googling key words to find the article I read. I did notice that Steer Manure (male cows) is very close to Hpoo, but still not as good. You can find that composted in bags at nurseries.

i am also growing on cpoo in bags one with spawn one with spore and one with LC . (just trying it out want to see ups downs what not) i only added verm at about 50/50 because it was very compact shit. i will also be posting my results (pics)when i get done. so fair its been about a week.i also have a wbs bag going from streat noc i did not spawn i want to try to cut that part out. it is problably 15% coli in about 8 days so going good so fair.good luck with your man

I have an EQ tray with cpoo/verm that's about 70/30 also. It colonized in about 5 days and started pinning on day 4 in my shotgun FC. Fat little devils. I'm planning to get a couple clones off it for another similar grow.

I used composted cow manure from Lowes and sifted it before use. i hydrated verm and mixed with the cpoo, added a bit more H20 to the whole thing and threw a bit of BRF on top and mixed that it too.

seems to be working great so far!

My hpoo tray on the other hand isn't colonizing as fast, but I can't really compare the two because the mix is different and one is bulk. That tray just started smelling like ass so I think I'll be throwing it out tonight. A little too wet i'm afraid. . .

There is a post floating about from a few days ago that covered the use of human scat for composting (to grow shrooms on)

But meat eaters poo sounds like a bad idea and I doubt it works well, if at all.
