casing with hpoo?
    #7570572 - 10/28/07 08:21 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I have a casing that just flushed and maybe a pound of hpoo left and im having problems with small mushrooms cause i used brf cakes. I was wondering if i could recase with my hpoo/straw mixture, then let it recolonize that, and then fruit? will it produce bigger fruits

Hell yeah. You have to be careful about your pasteurizing tek. Try this one.

Break up your cakes into your sub, let it colonize, then case, and you should be good to go.

Let me see if I understand what you did.

You had cakes, and you spawned them to hpoo. You let it colonize and then cased. Now, after a flush, you want to crumble your tray, add more poo, let it colonize and repeat?

If mycelia that has already fruited is capable of reentering vegetative state and colonize the extra poo, it should work fine.

But if small pinsets are a problem, there are a lot of issues to look into. BRF cakes aren't a bad spawn really, they are pretty efficient on their own, and when adding to poo, poo is pretty nute rich itself.

What you should be looking at is substrate depth, humidity of substrate, FAE, temp, RH, strain, multispore, etc etc etc

Sorry, i didn't explain very well...
i crumbled 2 BRF cakes and cased with 50 50 peat verm....
that casing has flushed twice
i was wondering if after this flush i can case it with some left over hpoo/straw to get bigger shroomson the third flush, and fourth, fifth if i can avoid contam.... I'm having my shrooms dry really light and thin... treasure coast

my thinking was if i cased with hpoo after this flush the shrooms would have a more nutes that they do now(which isnt hard to do since these BRF cakes are really not that nutritious at all)?????

Please let me know!!!

BUMP

Sorry but my window of time to do this, if it will work, is almost gone. I need to know if this is possible, and or if it will work and whatnot. Thanks!

sorry, but no.

it doesn't work like that.
you can't just keep putting fresh substrate on top of spent
substrate in hopes it'll colonize and fruit again.

you'll need to let the substrate that's fruiting do it's thing until it's dead.
then start over and make spawn to use to inoculate your poo/straw.

I under stand what your saying about spawning, I just spawned a few different strains to ten pounds hpoo/straw....i think you guys think im getting casing confused with spawning..... But thats not the problem

The reason I'm asking this isnt because I want more substrate,I'm not trying to spawn, I'm actually trying to use a thin layer of hoop/straw as casing in an attempt to use the rest of my hpoo and possibly increase my mushroom size, even if its only a tiny bit. If I were to do what I have been doing I would patch ( with 5050 peat/verm) where I picked mushys and LIGHTLY case the rest, mist then incubate for a few days then fruit. I mean if the thin casing layer of 50 50 peat verm will colonize, why wouldn't a layer of hpoo/straw which would be the same depth as that normal casing layer not colonize?

See, I have a very small amount of hpoo left from my spawn last week that I need to use before it goes bad. So my idea was to case after this flush lightly with it which MIGHT help my shroom size because they have been rather small and had very thin stems which, when dry weigh next to nothing.

And for the humidity, because I know hpoo and straw don't retain water near as well as a normal casing layer...... My FC has high RH because I have a few cakes in there as well, so if I do case with the poop I don't believe I'll have a humidity problem.....

So I guess my question now, since I think I explained myself clearly finally LOL is does anyone have anything to say about if this will work or not, and or has anyone ever attempted?

It's been attempted often, by the same people who refuse to search for the answer to that question, or listen to advice given. It doesn't work like that; your spent mycelium is riddled with contaminant spores and bacteria.

All right, thanks for the info, I searched and the results always had to do with crumbling a casing for spawn, thats why i posted. Im sorry you find my question dumb and redundant, but i didnt know the answer, if it upsets you just dont answer, simple

Honestly I don't much care about the outcome of your experiment. But until the Shroomery fixes its CMS to be more comprehensive, posts like yours, like this:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3374504/an/0/page/0

happen. At some point everyone who knows what they're talking about just leaves, and the post lingers there like a goddamned dead animal, causing 20 other posts about the same issue.

Yea, i was like you for a while, i just didn't get it. READ READ READ; casing is done with non nuitrient substances for a reason. You spawn to things like straw, or hpoo. Casing layers are made of non musie food such as MGMC or 50/50 verm

For a condescending post, yours ironically misses the entire point. Terminology wasn't really the problem here.
