Original version of Stairway to Heaven

Ask a thousand people chosen at random to name a Led Zeppelin song and odds are you'll get more people answering "Stairway to Heaven" than any other. It's a little known fact, though, that the song most people would recognize as having been performed by Led Zeppelin was actually a Beatles tune. Led Zep's cover of the song is the one that most people are familiar with, though.

Here's the Beatnix (a Beatles tribute band) performing the song as it was originally written, before those heavy metal hooligans wreaked their Zeppelinish havoc on it --

Stairway to Heaven is a Beatle's Song? Did I read that right? A Lennon/McCartney spiel? The Beatle's wrote it, but never recorded it? Sources?

Zeppelin wrote the song, not the Beatles.

"This comes from the Australian TV comedy show “the Money or the Gun” hosted by a funny bloke called Andrew Denton.

Each week he closed the show with a cover of stairway to heaven in a different genre by many of the popular artists at the time, about 25 all told."

The Beatnix were just one of many bands who played this song on the show.
