help with my new video card!!
    #7737367 - 12/09/07 04:52 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

So i got a dell dimension 2400. 1gig ram, 2.89ghz pentium 4. decent little machine.

I want to run dual monitors (one in the next room), so i bought a NVIDIA geforce FX5500 video card and installed it

Now i wanted to test to make sure it all works, before i go out and buy another monitor. But i can't get my current monitor to even work with it. I was told to boot up in bios and change some shit, but my computer boots up and goes straight to the welcome screen (windows xp)

I'm kind of a computer noob, so can anyone help me out??

bios is not necessary..

get the nvidia software and config through it (probably came with the video card when you bought it otherwise it's on the website)

do you have a monitor cable that will stretch into the next room?

how about speakers in the next room?

that seems like a lot of work. i have my hdtv in the other room and i literally unplug my computer and move it in there whenever i want to watch a movie cuz the bullshit extender for my xbox doesn't want to work anymore..

The only software that came with it is the drivers..which are installed already. I just don't know how to switch from using the onboard stuff...to the new card.

I'm running a projector in the other room (instead of a 2nd monitor now), and want to hook the pc up to it, so i've got this video card that has vga and dvi outputs on it. I'm just not sure what to do to run off the new card.

The only thing on the website, or the cd, is the drivers. Nothing else that i can see to configure

Check out this thread, maybe it will help. You can get to the BIOS by pressing F2 on the Dell screen at boot but it looks like there isn't a setting to disable onboard video so you have to do it through Windows.

i made un installed the drivers and started over. Following those instructions, still nothing. When booting up with the new card in, the screen is just black and the light flashes on the power button.
