Video card install problems - PLEASE HELP!
    #5712152 - 06/04/06 06:05 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I am trying to install a new video card to play a game I got 8 months ago. I only have a PCI slot so I bought a PCI geforce 256 meg video card. I know that PCI interface sucks but before I invest in a new PC I want to play the gamr The computer came with a intergrate into the mother board 64 meg chip and it sucks so I am trying to get the new card up and running. I am having to write this from my girl friends house because I can't see anything, so if you could respond soon I would appriecate it.

Before making any changes hardware wise I went to the control panal and removed(uninstalled) the devise driver for the intergrated chip and then the graphics went bad like a sight from a video game in the 70's. I expected this though. Then I went to the control panal again and then to system. I clecked the hardware tab and then I clicked on the hardware for the current video card and disabled it. I then powered down.

I open the PC slipped in the PCI card video card and then put everything back together and pluged the monitor into the new 256meg video card. I then turned the computer on.

Right off the bat the screen comes on and shows in the top left hand corner the Geforce 256 video card so I think everything is looking good. Next the Dell logo comes on with the blue bar that goes back and forth and it gives you the option to push either F2 or F12. Again I think everything is looking good. Next the window's logo comes on and I again think GREAT. Next everything is completely BLACK... it stays black. I don't know what I did wrong. Can any please help?

WB

Have you gone into your BIOS and disabled it? That is really all you should have done.

i would have installed card, on first boot with installed card, no drivers yet, go into bios and disable onboard graphics, then continue to boot and load drivers for new card.

peace

how do I do that?

When I clicked F12 at the intial screen I went down and the video interface is off of the intergated card and on automatic if that's what you mean.
