i thought it was horrible. just more of mel gibsons christian propaganda bullshit and some fancy special effects. they made the aztec culture look ridiculous. it was very far from accurate. on top of that, the story was lame. a guy gets separated from his family and he'll stop at nothing to get back to them. pretty fucking redundant if you ask me. two thumbs down.

I saw it available OnDemand last night, but I passed right by it because I figured it would be more evangelical agitprop.

i thought the special effects were terrible. did anyone else think that jungle cat looked like a stuffed tigger doll someone was moving back and forth with thier hand?

I love how people right it off because it isn't an accurate portrayal of the Mayans. Who gives a fuck, it's a fucking movie. Did you write off Donnie Darko because it's about fucking time travel? Or Fight Club because they do all that shit and only one person gets caught? I mean seriously, people just want to knock it because it's Gibson. I thought it was a good movie.

donnie darko and fight club aren't attempting to be historical fiction, so it's completely different. it's the first major movie about mayan/aztec culture and it makes the whole culture look like a bunch of blood thirsty dim witted savages. then at the end the noble spanish arrive and bring the heathens christianity. it just does a great injustice to the whole memory of the culture and every idiot in the world who has a copy of the passion of the christ sitting on their mantle will probably take it to be gospel. my disliking of the film really doesn't have much to do with the fact that gibson made it. i like some of his movies. however, if he's constantly making these historical dramas that will be watched by millions he should at least make some half assed attempt at getting it at least sort of right.

all the said, even if it were accurate, the plot was still predictable and redundant.
