Edible Mushroom Spore Vendors

I wasn't sure which category to post this in: Vendors or Gourmet/Edible/Medicinal Mushrooms. I decided to post on the latter because most vendors people talk about on the vendor board are selling Psilocybes and such.

So my question is: Does anyone know of a good place to get cheap spores (or cultures) of the edible variety? I went to fungiperfecti.com and the prices they demanded were outrageous. I understand that their cultures are of good quality due to them being selectively evolved (I'm not sure what the term for this process is) however the cost is not within my spending range. If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated. I'm looking mainly for the standard edible kinds, nothing too exotic.

Oh, I just realized, would it be possible to just buy mushrooms from a grocery store and clone them?

You can try cloning....although there's big debates about whether you'll end up with exactly what you're looking for. But it's great fun to try!

Also, CaptainMaxMushroom is going to be carrying various edible cultures. PM him. He's charging US$25/culture in a tube or on a plate.

Only try www.fungi.com if you don't mind spendi\ng $99 per culture! Get the culture from someone like Max (or even Sporeworks if you just want to play with a couple of oyster strains) and use the remaining funds to buy a copy of Stamets excellent book "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms". Yes, I know it's ironic I'm recommending his book when I don't recommend his company...

fungus among us best price4s i found yet, but they only sell kits, which you could clone to get your cultures. i am making an order for maitake, reishie, and lions mane this next friday, and it will only set me back a 50 spot, and thats with shipping

You're making the assumption the strain they use clones well Their kits are awfully cheap, though.

I think I'd rather deal with a good solid culture and work from that.

Here's a few links I have found:

http://www.mushroomcompany.com -they have suppliers in there suppliers section it's paid advertising so they always change.

http://www.mushroomcouncil.com -they actually have two domains the other same but .org and is full of nutritional information and the .com is full of all kinds of recipes for most all exotic mushrooms and tons of configurations you can use to search for the recipes.

http://www.mycosource.com -a canadain source but not a big selection.

http://www.shamanshop.net -yes, it's an herbal shaman shop. But they do sell alot of mushroom stuff, and have an edibles section. I believe they sell the Fungi Perfecti cultures, but if I remember right they are a little cheaper.

http://www.ralphstersspores.com -I know he already listed it, but I must say he has a good selection, and probly the best prices you will find.

I'd recommend Ralphsterspores.com. He has done much to support the Shroomery. I won a Reishi culture from him some time back. Check out Ralph. Gnome
