yawn. humans are far more complex than any robot that can be created.

Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time

I just don't think they would find them as precious as we do. They wouldn't need food, potable water, artificial heat, precious metals and gems or other luxuries.

Agriculture is what takes up most of the land humans occupy, so I don't think space would ever be an issue.

As for oil, I would think a superior intelligence would power their civilization with sources that are less short-sighted and more sustainable, if longevity is their goal. Add to this a robot's apathy towards luxuries like SUVs and all sorts of superfluous manufacturing, and I don't think they'd be fighting any wars over it. Humans are creatures of impulse. We want to drive everywhere rather that walk, and consume goods shipped from thousands of miles away because we want what we want when we want it.

Anyway, we can only guess at how a civilization or robots would operate, so these debates are just for fun really. I would suspect in the case of desperation for resources, robots would kill each other rather than us, because other robots have exactly what they need to sustain themselves; humans would need largely different resources.

Just like fish don't worry about birds using up all the trees.

Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man.  For him all doors are flung wide: him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire.  Our love goes out to him and embraces him, because he did not need it.

Have you seen Wal-Mart, son?

There is NO shit in their toilets, EVER.
Well, there is CUSTOMER shit, but no EMPLOYEE shit. I can smell the difference.

Anyways, Robots don't shit. Robots that roll back prices and wear blue vests that shake your hands.

It's been five years since I smelt employee shit in Wal Mart. So the only LOGICAL assumption one must make is that Wal*Mart hires Robots. Automatons don't release feces; this is displeasing to me.

They must hire Robots, which eat the Human employees, but don't shit out their bones, so you can't even tell anymore.

This is directly related to my Alien Theorums.

this one?

I should have pushed the absurdity level of that...

It was a joke, my friend, possibly too rich for its own good:nonono:

those who deny the existence of robots may be robots themselves.

"America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve."

AI has an advantage in that its evolution is driven by conscious thought which is a metric shit-tonne faster than the random chance of biological evolution.

The power of quantum computing is going to change everything. It's seriously not very long before we have computers that easily outperform the raw processing capabilities of the human brain (hardware), but software is a different issue, certainly we could not write software that outperformed ourselves. Presumably it would have to spawn from an evolutionary mechanism, but would evolve faster in a virtual environment than in 'reality'.

I think a better question is how long before we merge completely with AI, possibly even leave our bodies for some kind of stellar data-stream... a long time no doubt, but an interesting thought.

EDIT: sorry i posted the wrong address, all better

It's already happening here. CCTV systems are a giant network of robots, designed to automatically scan and focus on those with "suspicious behaviour".

Tivo's build up a psychological profile of what you watch, the information can be passed back to the controlling server.

Mobile phones provide a handy way for suspects to be traced.

RFID is infiltrating into more and more places, on euro and dollar notes, providing another way to locate people, and trace where currency is going.

Robots will just facilitate a new world order of slavery, with no privacy, and the freedom to work, or to starve.

True, technology is a catalyst for a new form of slavery. But im talking actual robots. Not tattle tell robot technology.

Ahh, in which case, things like the predator drone are just the beginning. EMP nullifying armour, and EMP weaponry would be prudent areas of research.

firstly: yes, in a way all these machines we made are taking up so much of our time that you may as well argue that robots HAVE taken over...

secondly: no, because robots can never be self-aware - self-awareness requires mind to identify its own totality, and for a machine that would mean to return to its own basis fuzzy logic or whatever math equations underly its functioning, and that is NOT profound but plain basic logic and reasoning and thus very limited

besides, i think self-awareness is a never ending unfinishable process and not a solid end-state, my guess
