homemade bongo idea

get a Heineken mini keg and a painting canvas from walmart and stretch it over it. think it would work?

no it will not work.

it'll sound like a toy. yeah it'll make noise but it won't sound good.

You'd have to stretch the canvas extremely tight over it to get a solid 'thump' sound when you struck it. Here's something to try if the canvas doesn't work out. Get about ten sheets of seran wrap, being careful not to let them get wrinkles or folds. Lay all of the sheets as neatly as you can on top of each other and flatten them out. Place them over the keg and pull the seran down at every side until you've got a sturdy, glassy looking drum face. After you've gotten it as tight as you can without breaking the shit, wrap a bunch of rubber bands around it to secure the seran.

Bingo. Bongo. Maybe. I just pulled that idea out of my ass.

but if you wanted to try and build your own drum
i'd look into seeing what the diameter of that keg is and perhaps trying to fit it with a rim, some clamps to hold it down, and an actual drum head? they make them in all sorts of sizes.. along with the hoops and everything too..

actually... i'd just buy a shell too.

or just buy a drum
:shrug:

or...
cut down a tree (and plant a new one)
and carve a shell
and then go from there...

my dad made me a drum, the skin is rawhide, sounds pretty good but needs warming up

there you go freddy. what you need to do is go kill a huge squirrel/rat/possum/rodent and skin it. then use its hide for the drum head.
