when a cpu says it's an AMD Athlon G4 X2 Dual-Core Processor 6000+, exactly how many ghtz does that mean it has?

AMD likes to name their processors kinda freaky...
That means (last I checked) that it's equivalent to the similar Intel chip running at 6GHz.

That chip actually runs at 3GHz...it's dual core so they (the marketing execs) label it as "6000+"

The chip has two cores, each running at 3GHz. That doesn't "add up" to 6GHz

I would claim that clock speed of processors has been irrelevant forever. It is a complete marketing gimmick that has no indication of a processors performance what-so-ever. If you want a meaningful metric, look at clock speed along with average CPI (cycles per instruction).

that one runs at 3 ghz.
the frequency of a processor does not tell you a lot about its computing power, unless your talking about different frequencies on the same type of core.
a pentium 4 northwood at 2.4 ghz is much slower than a core 2 duo conroe at 1.86 ghz.
