Can overlay be a problem on an outdoor patch that consiste of wood chips? I just pulled back some leaves that were covering an area and the mycelium had grown up to the top and has covered the wood chipps 100%. It resembles overlay on a cased tray.

They often do that. Put the leaves back. They serve as a natural casing layer, maintaining a high humidity at the surface where primordia form, even during dry weather. RR

I figured it would be fine and still heavily pin. Sort of like cubes and a overlayed casing with a million pins on it. I picked a mushroom and pulled up a chip next to it and it had about 30 knots/pins on it. I think this patch is just waiting to explode once it rains again
