not enough water for the cakes at the begining?

A lot of pins have been aborting, so i took a cake today and broke it apart it was very dry inside, is this because I didn't use enough water in the preperation of the substrate? Would this be the cause of my aborting pins? Thank you for any info.

I love growin' shitake mushrooms!

Yeah the inside was colonized but just dry as hell, kinda faint light gray to white color.

You should've dunked it. You still can, but now that you broke it up, you'd be better off using it as spawn for some dung/straw.

you should dunk your cakes or inject sterile water into them....this will increase the amounts of your flushes.

dunking.....taking a cake and putting it in water for 12 hours.

injecting.....taking a cake and using a syringe.....inject 10cc of sterile water into the cake.
