 Post 3rd flush EQ casing used as spawn! New Pics

My friend used a post 3rd flush EQ casing to spawn some straw. Here is what happened...
Pasteurized some straw. Put the entire 6 cake casing into food processor and ground up into small granules ala Old Timers Straw Tek. Layered straw and spawn until he ran out of straw. Covered with plastic wrap with holes poked in it. Kept in the dark for 4 days until mycelium overtook straw. He then cased with 50% verm and 50% Jiffy Mix.
Eight days later (today) pins have just appeared. My friend is amazed! He didn't really think this would work, but he was going to throw out the casing anyway so he tried it.
Will post some pics as soon as they get a little bigger (my digicam sucks).
If this really works as my friend suspects it will, it seems that growers can get a lot more milage out of their mycelium then they think.
Will post more when there is more to tell.

im really interested to see how this xperiment will go, i hate throwing out perfectly good casing materials after they have been spent, i agree feeding the spent material is pro`bably the best way to see more flushes

Moe is the outdoor grow meister thats for sure. Very informative post. My friend didn't read that before he tried this.
As for any tips... After the spawn has overtaken the straw, I mean you want it to be really white all over, you case as desired and then treat like any other casing.
My friend got a lot out of "Old Timers Straw Tek" which he found at Mycotopia. Here is the link...

Think about this, you`re working with a 4th generation spawn there.
I`m not disagreeing with your idea sounds viable, but I don`t think it would be as strong or as prolific a fruiter as you`d expect.
But hey like I said, sounds very viable.

My friend was going to throw it out anyway. So even if it flushes weak he will still be ahead.

*** UPDATE ***
The straw casing has been quite good to my friend. He is harvesting a nice crop from this post third flush EQ spawn. The fruits are huge! The biggest he has grown, with one topping 10 inches. It really works to use spent casings to spawn straw!
Pics of the harvest are coming once they are dried. The flush wasn't even so the pic will be of the final product. About a week more.

Here are the harvest pics! This was my friends first attempt with straw. The first flush yielded only seven shrooms, but they were monsters  Dry weight = 14 grams
A second flush has already started. Don?t really know what to expect with straw, but my friend is optimistic

*** UPDATE ***
The second flush from the straw was only one shroom, but it weighed 4.3grams dry! It was fuckin' huge.
A third flush has just finished, about 7 medium sized shrooms that are in the process of drying now. Looks about 14 grams.
Going for a fourth flush from the straw. Pretty amazing considering this mycelium already went through three flushes as a casing before it was spawned to straw.
