C02 fat asses

I've read that not fanning out a terrarium regularly can lead to the dreaded fat ass syndrome but I'd like to know if there's any relation between low oxygen levels and fat asses. I may not have the opportunity to fan out the chamber too often, but I I have a way of removing C02 from the terrarium (details at end of post). There would still be low levels of oxygen in the chamber and I'm just wondering of that has any detrimental effects on the shroomies.

C02 Sink Tek for any chemists interested:

C02 dissolves in water and forms H2C03 which then dissociates into 2H+ and C03-. If there is a source of calcium ions in the water (I add a small amount bangsite http://www.bigbangcannons.com/bangsite.htm), the Ca2+ and Co3- ions react to precipitate out as Ca(C03)2 thereby removing C02 from the air.
Formulae (not balanced):
C02 + H20 -------> H2C03 -------> 2H+ + C03-
Ca2+ + C03- -------> Ca(C03)2

Hmmmm, hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid decomposes into water and oxygen......

I must say I liked a lot your 'chemical' idea. But i am confused... does it work on you, or is it just a theory?

Teks which use Hydrogen Peroxide do benefit from the fact that the workings of the mycelium actually dissolve the H2O2 into H2O and O, which means that e.g. you can grow mycelium on closed tightly jars [therefore no contams!] because the peroxide gives both water and oxygen to the mycelium. But your theory with the calcium is something i have never encounter before. Well done. Pleaz if it is working on you, give us some more detailed info!!

Well I have my first batch of cakes getting ready to be birthed into my fruiting chamber where I intend to give this li'l experiment a whirl. In preliminary experiments in which I just left a glass of water with the Ca ions out in the open, I did get a precipitate indicating that C02 was in fact absorbed. Whether or not the rate of absorbtion can keep up with the rate it is produced by the mycelium has yet to be determined. I do know that 60 or so grams worth of calcium carbide in water has the theoretical capability of absorbing over 40 liters worth of C02. Maybe if you were to have another air pump inside the terrarium that bubbles through the solution to increase the absorbtion...
