Bleach Dip TEK Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- update. my recent experiments have brought me to the conclusion that the inclusion of vinegar in the formula, at least at the strength posted before, is causing some molds, esp. green [trich] to actually grow faster than before. lol but once i removed the vinegar from the solution, once again i see it stopping the mold dead in it's track. i think it has to do with the solution ph, the vinegar brings the ph into the range favored by trich, while straight bleach is very basic/alkaline, which trich hates.

bump. sorry, but this is important info for those using bleach, so i want to make sure everyone gets a chance to see this info. DO NOT use vinegar in the mix.

I tried to make a solution of 6% bleach and 70% acetic acid. I dripped the acid into the base under stirring measuring the pH using indicator papers.
The papers allways tured to white(they got bleached obviously) and at some point a strong chlorine odour began to escape from the beaker.(the amount of the added acid was around 10vol%.
i abandoned the mixing, and ran out of the bathroom where I conducted the experiment.(the bathroom has a exhaust fan).
So, be carefull when experimenting with bleach and acids!

Does it make chlorine gas?

I'm with Anno on this one.
AFOAF almost fainted because of the fumes when she tried this tek. Although, she now just dunks with water and bleach and things are going fine.

damn, sorry guys, i guess i should have been more clear. never mix vinegar and bleach straight, they react to form chlorine gas. they must be added to water for it to work safely. but anyway, moot point as the vinegar is just trich candy, i didn't consider that it's made from grain, is nutritious, and leaves residues for trich to sprout on since trich loves acidic conditions. just use bleach and water, it's safer and simpler. also works better.

And for general disinfection, would you still recommend the addition of vinegar?
