A good wireless router for heavy bittorent use
    #7433937 -

I'm trying to keep it in a somewhat budget minded range... I have a 108Mb card but only a cheap ass comcast supplied netgear router. I'm thinking this buffalo or this linksys
What do you think??

Have you had bad experiences with them?

I use my Linksys Wireless G (WRT54G) and I torrent a LOT. I'm a networking specialist and deal with computers every day and I'm lost to why you don't recommend Linksys. I would stick with a normal Linksys Wireless G router. You could go with Wireless N if you want a better network, but you'd have to invest in a draft N router and PCI card. See the below for more information about draft N.

either will do fine, one thing to look at though, is some 3rd party firmware called ddWRT, it is awesome, i put it on my linksys 54G router, and i torrent constantly, and havent had to reset it in months....much better than the original firmware.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the standards. I only have a G card so I'll probably go with a G router. I've read alot of mixed reviews on linksys. Although I'm convinced a good portion of negative reviews are from people who don't really know what there doing and would rather blame it on the product. With that being said the Buffalo equipment seems to have consistently good reviews....hmm...decisions, decisions...

also, stay as far away from motorola as possible. they are notorious for not just acting weird, but frying due to torrents.

Do you have the ability to do a little technical work to it? an i really mean a little.

Look up what i was talking about in my post, it is called ddWRT.

If you set up the QoS(quality of service) correctly, you want have to worry, also, set its priority to premium, and your xbox priority to exempt, and everytime you log on with your box, it will take some of the bandwidth from utorrent and give your xbox all it needs.

gobblin, ive never heard of the tomato firmware, but it looks similar to the ddWRT that i use, give it a try and let us know...

peace

Oh yeah, I decided on this Buffalo router. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to use third party firmware yet. I'll keep you posted.
