That felt great. I swore at my boss and everything, and stormed off. Never done that before, it's great.
Now.. what to do till winter pipeline shit starts up...

Why did you quit? This might just be me, but i wouldn't have caused a scene; i hate my job but i would rather have a good reference than a brief moment of pleasure, but i know, to each his own.

What's done is done and it sounds like the man feels good about himself and things, so clearly he needed to give his crappy boss an earfull.

Yeah. I don't need a reference from that shithole. I have another job lined up, just not right away.
I didn't really cause a scene, it was one-on-one in the parking lot. :p

Last year, it was Trans-Canada.
It depends on what contract we get.. we're sub-contractors!
There's talk of going to Saudi Arabia. I'm sooo down.

Kinda hard to explain, but I work in surveying so it's with a crew-chief and rodman.. and I'd been there for 6 months and they switched me to the slow, shitty crew chief no one likes, the guy who all the newbies go with. I took it as a sign they wanted me to quit or something. There was more to it, but it's long, haha.

Yeah, culture shock for sure. I'm not sure how it'd work.. would we stay on a compound of sorts? Hmm.

Need any electricians? I have an associate's degree in electrician shit.
Dunno if I'd wanna go to Saudi though. Americans are not very popular over there.

That's what I do for a living; survey and design work for a civil engineer. When this job wears thin I might do some pipeline work.
Kudos for your storm-out

That sounds like BS chained by mental slavery. oh i need a good reference, i need to be a good boy so people will buy me.
Sorry for sounding offensive you just set me up with a good example, and it's nothing personal. I just don't get people with loyalty to bad companies. People rather settle then move on. When you settle you move on at a pace set out by others. 6 months till a raise, 20 years till that guy retires, What no Christmas bonus!?!?!?!
Maybe you got a good company to work for? Maybe i haven't found that great career yet? Some people maybe posses that entrepreneur spirit.

Exactly. I don't know why people are such pussies when it comes to work. I believe that there is a contract or agreement between the company and the individual. I understand that they pay me, but I also do WORK for the pay. They just can't expect anything of you. I remember this one job I was working back when I was 19. I was a computer repair technician and we hit the slow summer season. My job description said basically what my job was with this one little line at the end, "and anything else we ask of you". Uh...ANYTHING else? So, being that we were slow, and mind you I had to wear khakis and either a button down or polo shirt, this mother fucker had us out weeding the front flower beds and picking up cig butts/garbage. I was pissed. I don't think bosses should be able to ask anything of you and then put your job on the line as collateral. I think you should be able to say "FUCK YOU" and keep your job rather than, "oh yes sir, fuck me in the ass harder and then let me lick the shit off of your dick." Fuck assholes. also....FUCK PAYCHEX and it's 10,000 employee force full of brainwashed, brain dead, political (as in office politics) motherfuckers. I couldn't stand that place. I handed in my two week notice, and then told my boss to fuck off called him out on what a dipshit he was. I got walked out the door and then two weeks later received my final pay for two weeks that I had not worked a minute of and all of my vacation time.

No offense take, mostly because you are right. But I live in a capitalist society and have no other option but to work. so if i have to work i might as well take the proper steps to achieve high liquidity (for security) and higher pay (more money per hour = more leisure). So that is mine, but still, to each his own. I didn't say anything about loyalty to a crappy company though, if i worked for one i wouldn't hang around either.

All I can say is work is work, if you enjoy it, then you are on the right track.
As for the future. Get some money in an account, and let it work for you.
I wonder if you could take a student loan out, and invest it into a mutual fund or IRA. One that has a high exchange. If you could get 10 grand put into a account like that, you could make a few g's in a year. Or go to school, each year you get a check from loans, you take half or more and put it into an account. By the time you graduate, you have enough money to pay for school, while also making some extra.
Talking about living in a capitalistic society, you might as well make real capital. They are willing to throw money at you to go to school, if you don't make much. But they give you the full chance to buy into the systems set up for making money. takes money to make money, takes an education to get into the good gigs. If you use the student loans right, you come out 7 years down the road ready to rock n roll!

you could in theory take out a loan to invest it but you would take pretty high risk of defaulting and a bank wouldn't lend you money. The rules of risk and return can be a bitch, if you want to have a shot at earning a higher return than the interest rate on the loan you will have to take some pretty big risks. you'd be better off borrow money from an individual and call yourself a "money manager" and take a cut off the returns. that is the ultimate in finance goals - make money without spending any of your own.

See but if you work it while you are in school, you have no interest rates being added. Or am i off on that?
But if you invest that money into the right firm, they will be paying you an interest rate.
When you get out of school, you tell them to cut a check, pay off the loan and keep the extra in your account Sure after that, the gain will be slower do to the low amount to work with. But it's more then you started with, if you forgot about it, you got a down payment on a house in a few years.
