"To pop a squat"

Does this verb-phrase, to you, mean "to sit down" or "to take a shit." Cause I've been hanging out with this dude that says it meaning to sit down. But to me to pop a squat has always meant to take a shit.

I have herd it used to sit mostly, kind of like, "come in get comfortable" kind of deal.

To take a shit. Most places don't have toilets so you squat over a hole instead. Always assumed that.

I always think of it as meaning taking a piss. As in, "My female friends were shit-faced drunk and on the way home they needed to piss, but there were no bathrooms, so they just found a hidden area and popped a squat."

That's how most people I know use it, at least.
