P.O. Box
    #7377913 - 09/07/07 09:22 AM (16 years, 7 months ago)

So i went to the post office the other day to get a po box cus im sick of dealing with people getting into my mail at home. and the lady says i need two forms of identification. so i give her my drivers liscense and i ask if a credit card will do for the second form... she says no. i say will my health insurance card work? she says no.. i pull out like everything i have other than my liscense and this lady is like no, no, no. she asks, do you have a car registration? college id? thats about all that you can use.
my car is not registered in my name. and i dont have a college id. so wtf, people that havent gone to college or dont own a car cant get a po box? how retarded is that?

They would probably take a voter registration card. Or SS but I won't give that one out.

birth certificate, yeah ill give that a try as well.
what do you mean go to the liscense branch though, liscense branch of what, where?

ive never actually recieved mail through a po box. if the mail youre getting doesnt fit in the box you just get a note to pick it up right? and you can do that as much as you want right... cus i intend to recieve larger objects there and i dont want to pay for a larger box.

take mail addressed to you, go in, and ask to speak to the postmaster. there is one at every branch. put everything out on the table showing you are who you are. 9 times out of 10 he/she will make an exemption for you without having to show your ssn.

I had a PO box a few years ago to receive stuff that I didn't want to come to my house. Whenever I got a package larger than my mail box, they would leave a note and a key to a locker that was used to hold peoples large packages.

It may be different where you live, but I paid for the smallest box they had (something like $10 +10 security deposit per 6 months) and I was able to get large boxes all the time.

I have had many myself, some things I used were

passport
birth cert
license

a good choice for you may be a rental contract on your house or apartment... if you dont have one you can usually download a blank one and fill it out yourself.

I use a blank rental agreement every time I move so that I can get library cards, discounts at community centers, po box's etc...

If you cant find one and are in the USA let me know, I think I got one hanging around my laptop somewhere
