NOTICE TO CONSUMERS. THE INTERNET CORPORATION FOR ASSIGNED NAMES AND NUMBERS - THE NON FOR PROFIT ENTITY THAT ADMINISTERS THE INTERNET'S DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM, HAS ISSUED A NOTICE OF TERMINATION OF THIS COMPANY'S ACCREDITATION TO SERVE AS AN INTERNET DOMAIN NAME REGISTRAR. PLEASE SEE www.ICANN.ORG FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

Godaddy.com is by far the cheapest and the best. Especially if you are looking to buy multiple domains.

Yeah, registerfly totally fucked a ton of people. They basically promised to register all these domains for people and never actually did it and just kept all the money. Godaddy then bought out most of the domains and registered them, though a lot of people still lost their domains b/c they never bothered to check on them until way, way, way too late.
Godaddy is the #1 registrar in the world now, something like 25 million domains and 5 million customers. You can bet they won't fuck you over like registerfly did. There are other registrars that are reliable in that sense as well, mainly the big names. Godaddy tends to have lower costs most of the time though, in addition to a lot of good hosting products.
One thing to look for when purchasing shit like this is to google for those e-coupons. You'll find sites all over that have coupons for different registrars (and other random online merchants) that'll help you shave off a few dollars here and there. I think fatwallet maintains a list just for godaddy for example and another for Amazon, etc.

Godaddy is utter crap
They have the most complicated control panel which is completely unneccessary and they only let you send 250 emails per day unless you use their web email interface.
Not only that but they have like 32525234534623 variations of the same plan so when you buy a domain name and an email account.. odds are it would have been cheaper if you had gone through a different link on their site.
GODADDY IS GARBAGE. NOBODY SHOULD EVER USE THEM.

Yahoo domains ain't too bad... 10 buckls for a year.. the email you can get for 7 bucks a month
It works pretty well for me.
I also use dreamhost.com ... these guys are my fav.. If you do web hosting with them: the longer you stay with them the more shit they give you over time (space, bandwidth, goodies, etc)

This thread is about domain name registration, not web/email hosting...Lets stick to the point here.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you. The new control panel they have is ridiculously easy to use and I never said that you should be purchasing email or anything else from them, the only product you should purchase from Godaddy is domain registration, nothing else. If you do your research and especially if you can find discount codes Godaddy is by far the best choice.

The reason for email limits is because GoDaddy is majorly anti-Spam. 250 emails is for the free email with domain, with hosting you get 1000 emails per day. If you purchase a virtual dedicated server you can increase that up to 100,000 per day if you can prove you're not a spammer (which basically just means giving a brief overview of what you're doing that requires that many emails).
Spam sucks, stopping it is okay by me. If you want unlimited outbound emails, talk to your ISP. But like others said, this is about domain registration, which is definitely something that Godaddy does well. You should never tie yourself to one company if their products don't suit you. Diversify if you need to.

Godaddy should be fine as long as you're not spamming. I've had a few sites with them for a couple of years with no problems (1 site is still even hosted there).
Here's the latest Godaddy discounts - enter the code when you checkout:
10% off any order Coupon Code: cjcsave10 Exp. 1/31/2008
20% off shared hosting plans Coupon Code: cjc20host Exp. 1/31/2008
$6.95 .com domain names Coupon Code: cjc695dom Exp. 1/31/2008
I haven't tested these myself, but the site I found them on is pretty good about removing stuff that doesn't work.
