some gills will change color with maturity ...
that goes for just about all mushrooms ..
the spores is what can change the color .... for instance with p.cubensis a very common active shroom , the gills can be shown as whiteish/greyish ...but the spores will darken the gills to a purple/brownish color ...

I cant really give you much help I'm no sub expert but someone will come along ..and have more to say

also ...spore prints will deff. help nail the correct ID you're looking for

looks like m.oreadas (Fairy ring mushroom) quite common. But I am not sure because the stems look too thick. I dunno :/

It is definitely NOT panaeolus subbalteatus. It could be the fairy ring mushroom as Psykotic said. Not sure. would need a spore print to put it in a category.

The issue of "look-a-likes" is a subjective one. What looks like a Liberty Cap to someone else, In my eyes may not resemble Ps. semilanceata in the slightest.
It is a matter of how much attention you pay to detail.

I like to use this photo as an example:

These two mushrooms were found growing inches from one another. They share some physical resemblence, though the mushroom on the left is Tubaria furfuracea, where as the mushroom on the right is Psilocybe cyanescens.

In this image, the identity is clear, however, from across the street I may wander over for closer inspection. To people just starting out, they may require bruising and spore printing to discern between collections of these two species.
