Most likely Antillarum..they usually grow in close proximity of cubies. I don't think they have a veil or bruise blue, they are not active. Pan Subbs don't normally grow in dung, although sometimes have. What does the cap/gills look like? Spore print? Should be jet black. My guess would be Antillarum!

From what little description you gave, my guess would be more along the
lines of Panaeolus sphinctrinus. (See pic below)

The following pic and description of Panaleous Antillarum is from MJ?s site
Mushroom John

Cap:4-10 cm broad. Hemispherical to broadly convex, whitish at first becoming silvery whitish-grayish with age, sometimes appearing slightly yellowish, a bit rare for yellow. Surface very smooth to rimose-scaly. Flesh is very thick and whitish.

Gills:Adnexed to adnate, close and broad and slightly swollen in the center. Whitish to grayish at first and then becoming dark to mottled black. Egdes of gills are whitish-grey.

Stem:40-200 mm long by 5-15 mm thick. Equal to slightly enlarged and curved at the base and solid buit sometimes is twisted. Very whitish in color and the surface is smooth and striate towards the base.

Spores:18-20 x 11-12.5 microns. and are ellisoid in shape.

Sporeprint: Black in deposit.

Habitat:Gegarious tp subcespitose in manure of cattle, gaur and water buffalo and sometimes horses.

Distribution:Widely distributed with a cosmopolitan distribution.

Season:In the spring and fall and during the rainy seasons. The author ahas found this species to be common in Thailand as well as Florida and other regions of the USA and Europe.

Dosage:This species is not psychoactive.

Comment:In the late 1940s this species gained a reputation in Austrlia as the ?Hysteria Fungus? allegedly causing accidental hallucinogenic iniebriations in foragers in some parts of that country. Later it was determined that the actual cauitive mushroom was Copelandia cyanescens which is macroscopically similar. This species is edible but does not taste worth eating

Hope this helps.

Peace to Everyone.

Peaceful Nomad

I doubt if they are Panaeous antillarum becasue he said the gills were brown. HEre is a shot of P. antillarum witht he black gills with white edges.

You are right Mr. Mushrooms. I apologize for that incorrect statement..I myself have found a few subbs on horse dung. I wasn't thinking of horse manure at the time. I have found subbs growing with cow manure, but only in places where there was a bunch of rotting hay mixed in with it.

Well.. If they have a concial cap then they can't be Pan subs, I've never seen a Pan sub with a conic cap. Tthey're always very rounded and spherical or flattened out(when they are older).

You're probably right Peaceful Nomad. I'll wager they are sphinctrinus. I have found them growing on horse dung, they're neat mushrooms. I'm pretty sure the spore print should be black. Are there small white dots alot the edge of the cap? Only thing that has me is how he says there are brown gills.

Panaeolus sphinctrinus has black gills not brown, and no way would they be brown. The only other species could be psilocybe coprophila maybe which has a chocolate to purple brown print But P. coprophila does not have a conic cap.

Hello chronny,

Well really, without a photo we are left in the dark.

..without much experience, the pictures and information everyone have posted for you may have only confused you more.
-As to the un experienced eye, they can all look the same.

Need a picture for anything near certain.

Keep shroomin,
GGreatOne234
