Colors wave lengths are math, colors them self are not.

And even the wave lengths are not math but we use math to understand them.

I don't think this is a farfetched idea, and I also think it can never be proven either way. Just some food for thought.

I participated in this experiment not long ago on colour perception. The idea was that they showed us samples of colour shades that were between two colors, say a reddyblue or orangyyellow and we had to say what colour we thought it was.

The neurology behind colour perception is very complex. There are two parts, one is a purely phisical event, the detection by the cones and rods in your eyes of light of different wavelenghth which sends signals to the brain via the optical nerve.

The second part is the most tricky. The name you call a colour depends totally on upbringing. If you were told all your life by everyone around you that lemons are purple, you will call the colour we call yellow purple. But that is only a name, will you see it the same as us?

Studies have shown that the brain has a limit to differenciating colours. when a colour is very close to another, it is basically random what you will call it. But I do mean very close.

The actual perception part of it, what is it that we actually see, is still a bit of a mystery.
