Colors
    #7331302 -

Since I was a young child, one really trippy idea has always gone through my mind.

Color-wise:

What if I see the color red, as you see the color yellow?
What if you see the color brown, as I see the color green.
etc...

I don't think this is a farfetched idea, and I also think it can never be proven either way. Just some food for thought.

I've thought about this too, and I came up with the conclusion that unless you are biologically different than most people then we see the exact same color. Because it's just chemical reactions and what not.

Or if my perception of the flow of time is identical to your perception of the flow of time.

Damn, I wonder what it would be like for your normal time perception to be extremely dilated.

Ha, I remember the exact moment when I was a kid and I first thought about this. It's awesome just to toke up a fatty and let that one bake in the oven for a bit.

Or that the world at my back is a void only to flare into existence during the moment that my vision happens upon it.

Not THE world, but YOUR world :yesnod:
It's true.

I remeber thinking these things too.  Great stuff for a kid to come up with too promote free thinking I think.

But since the brain evolved the same for all of us and we share the majority of our experiences, our perception of colors and time are likely close to each other.

But consider a biologically alien life form.  The chance they would perceive the same colors and time would be low (I would guess).  Imagine a life form that can experience generations of lifetimes in one of our seconds.  Or maybe a species where a single thought could take thousands of years.

And of course the 'colors' they perceive would be unconceivable by us.  (like the old explaining red to a blind man saying)

But the most interesting thing, I think, would be their consciousness.  We all know that a psychedelic trip can vastly alter our consciousness.  And this effect too is complete indescribable to someone who hasn't done it.  But that change in consciousness would be noting compared to the difference between us and an alien consciousness.

ehh i digress

So in theory I should be able to walk backwards into space?

Very interesting, I never thought about how movement could factor into the equation. LOL

BTW, I'm sure the world outside of my vision exists these days. It was a thought of mine as a youngster.

agreed. some of those questions are intriguing but some are just dumb imo. If a tree falls in a forest where no one is around, yes it will make a sound. Sound is vibration of air, and a tree falling would definitely move alot of air.

You're missing the true philosophical point of that question.

I think he is saying there is not a philosophical point of that question. Well I dont want to put words in his mouth....

Id say the philosophical quality of that question is running on empty though.

i understand the whole philosophical nature of it, i was expressing how it shouldn't be taken into a philosophical context because the question itself is just impractical. There are much better ones, but some of the main one's that people focus on and try to pose as pseudo-intellectuals by repeating are just inane.

I agree with the fact that it's a dumb question, but I think it can help a child to think more freely, but the answer is actually no. Sound has come to mean a vibration audible to the human ear, if there is no one around to hear it, then it is not a sound. This of course is by name only and obviously like you said the falling tree would create vibrations that would be a sound, if someone were around to hear them, but that's the whole point of the question.

My guess would be unless your brain constructs the majority of this reality using a foriegn set of mathmatics, than we see the same colours. Colors are math. At least most of the time;-)
