P. weilii fruiting?
    #732382 - 07/08/02 08:58 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I have a P. weilii casing and its been chilling for 2 weeks now. The mycilium is growing through the casing layer and I've had to patch it with more casing material in a few spots. I'm not sure how long it is supposed to take for weilii to fruit Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

see the problem with hooking a poor ninja up with a print is that as I stated in my question... I CANT GET MINE TO FRUIT. So if mine decides to be a good little fungus colony and produce mushrooms that then mature enough to produce spores I'd be more then happy to trade prints. But until then I cant help you.

Ask aaron, I haven't seen him post in a while though... Ask mike, the dude who sent out free spore prints to the 20 people that posted in his thread.

Did you try any standard pinning initiation strategies?
In what conditions is it 'chilling'?
Please be more specific in the future, it is exceptiontionally difficult to remote diagnose a problem with a blindfold and earmuffs.

the casing is is in a sterlite container at a temperature of 75 degrees with a humidity of 80% and I spray the casing twice a day and fan 3 times.

and also the casing recieves about 16 hours of sunlight through a window every day. And I've also had to patch the casing layer a couple times because overlay was getting kinda bad.

Aaron tried 15 different isolates, 1 fruited.

There is a post archived at the forestfloor on it.

Fruiting temps were 68-75F. He reccomended waiting 1-2 weeks past colonization before casing. He let his Sterilized casing soil sit around for a week after cooking before using.

took 29 days after casing before they pinned. Took another32 days to mature!!!

Alot of the exotics arevery slow to pin and very slow to mature.

He also tried alot of different substrates.

I have no experience with welii, however have you tried some of the standard procedures?
Moderately high CO2 incubation time after casing, cold shock, etc?
What is the rH of the ambient air fanning 3 times a day is a very low turnover for most species, especially those more sensitive to low O2 or high CO2?
Perhaps additional air exchange (consistent) would be helpful.
Given the additional time his casing rested, it is possible that other organisms are helpful/necessary to fruit.
Could you try making a pin-water spray? It could, theoretically, work to chemically induce pinning.
Good luck.

Hey HongKong,

What substrate did you grow them out on?
Which tech did you use?
What is the casing constructed with?

GG

I just used rye grass seed like the kind i used for mexicana. But my project became contaminated with P. cubensis so it never worked out. It didnt get contaminated until a couple weeks after i cased the jars with straight soil. I just started some weilii up very recently. this time im using grass seed and straw in a 3:1 ratio in quart jars innocualted with a very aggressive strain i isolated on agar and im just going to try to case it again with soil.

Also your light cycles are all screwed up man.
You shouldn`t expose them to more than 10 hours of light a day inmo.
And just persist after that.
also raise your humidity to promote primorida.
An fan fan fan.

um check the date on the first post. I started this post in july and the casing as long since been overrun with P. cubensis which produced some very large mushrooms. But thanks for the advice anyways.
