Well treat it like the tamp in every way. Grow out mycelium on petri dishes then transfer to rye grass seed. Colonize the seed and use it as substrate and case or inoculate straw/manure or compost. Use a 50/50 casing w/lime and fruit it. After you fruit it , sell me a print pleaseeeeeeee

I don't know anything about mexicana, but it is supposed to grow well using nearly identical conditions that Ps. tampanensis needs. Here is a thread from a few months back that has some useful posts on tampanensis. http://www.shroomery.org/ubbnoncgi/Forum2/HTML/008100.html If you have mexicana spores, there are several people (including me) who would love to get small piece of a print to work with (hint, hint, beg). There are several shroomerites that are working with a mexicana culture that came from Germany. That particular culture is supposed to be nearly impossible to get to fruit to sporulation. If that is what you are working with, good luck. DD

Hi there,I'm very much a newbie when it comes to growing shrooms. My entire experience consists of lurking around these forums for about a week (But I've learned Soooo much stuff in that week) Recently on a trip to Amsterdam, I picked up a P.Mexicana spore print from Conscious Dreams (Not realising it wasn't cubensis). After reading that honey and water could be used for mycelium growth, I tried this (Still unaware that my spores were different to cubensis). Now about a week or so into it, and I've started to get small white fuzzy blobs appearing around the bottom of the jar, which I assume are mycelium. I've read the link to the info about growing sclerotia, and will try this (I'll have to use brown rice rather than rye grass seeds though... Could this be a problem?), however, I'd also like to get some fruit (I'd prefer to eat these, and it sounds like spore prints are hot trading items). If anyone can give me any advice, I'd be more than happy to send them a spore print or two in return. I wouldn't usually ask for help like this, but I'm a little concerned that my lack of experience will mean I don't get any fruit, and I'd love to be able to help out those looking for spore prints. Like they say... You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours.. And one last thing... How does potency of P.mexicana compare to P.semilancaeta (SP?)? These are the only shrooms I've tried before, as I live in the UK and they grow round like wild fire round here in the autumn. Feel free to email me. Thanks in advance Phyl

If you really think that you have a Ps mexican than you should contact someone who really knows what they are doing and let them work with it. I dont know how busy Workman is but you could send him an email www.shroomery.org/~sporeworks

Phyl, After I read your post last night(1/18/00), I emailed all three Conscious Dreams stores in Amsterdam. The reply I recieved was they only carry Psilo. Cubensis variety Equador. I agree with Ryan, this species is VERY,VERY hard to find. If you do have it, let Workman help you. The whole world is looking for this strain. That includes me! This is one strain that needs to be spread among fellow shroomers to save it from extinction!

we are ateempting to fruit the mexicana again on grasseed supplemented with a little peptone...colonisation of the jar was very rapid....less than a month...inoculated from petridish....this strain never made sclerotia like the tampanensis did on grasseed....but it was pinning as u can see on my page....so know this strain is capable of fruiting...just didint find the key yet...BiO.

Whether or not the prints are really Mexicana, I can't be sure until I get some shrooms popping up (Or more than likely not, if they are mexicana.)All I know is that I bought them in Conscious dreams in Amsterdam in March last year, and they DEFINATELY said Psilocybe Mexicana on the packet. If they're not, it's probably better for me, but I really don't think they should be able to sell cubensis spores labeled as mexicana. If I still had the spore print I would have been more than happy to send it to workman, but I've made it into liquid mycelium, growing in a jar of honey and water. I think I'll try 2 experiments, One using the standard MMGG tek, and one using grass seed. This way, if they are cubensis (Which I'm starting to think they might be) I will get some fruit, and then I'll know what they are for sure. I'll let you know what happens. Phil

Phyl, I hope it is Mexicana. I also hope you have great success. That way you would be able to trade prints, so the mushrooms can get around. Good luck

Psilocybe mexicana grows well from mycelium to whole grain rice (a la 9er tek) but as everyone who's tried it knows, it's almost impossible to fruit. B.I.O seems to be the closest so far. I doubt you've got spores. The only supply at the moment seems to be from mycelium.

BiO, Thanks for input here. Have been interested in P. mex for some time, but no experience. Especially, have been interested in sclerotia producing strains. Again, no experience. Between you, Ryche, Workman, Ripper?, and the gang, I will be greatfull for any further posts on this subject. Thanks in advance! Peace

Damn I wrote this like 10 ten times, and forgot to post time by time (I turned off netscape everytime, so data was lost)... anyway : FMRC has Psilocybe Mexicana spores. Its 50$ per a small sample of a print. Prints are viable. In TMC ("the mushroom culture") #6 there is specific Psilocybe Mexicana cultivation information. In TMC #25 there are some culture tips for Mexicana. I have pictures from an article by Stephen Peele (curator/founder of FMRC/TMC). One picture is of Mexicana Sclerotia, one of Dried Mexicana's, one of Mexicana's grown in lab conditions. I would u/l it but it exceeds the 20k u/l limit. If anyone is interested in the article and pictures, I will be more than happy to send it by email. DSMZ, a german company for microbiology carries a few strains of the mushroom, but they will not sell it to private individuals (their web address is as follows www.dsmz.de). I believe I can get a friend from Mexico to send me a print or two. I dont have the time to start a new project, so as soon as I'll get I'll mail it to ppl I trust that will grow it. Anyone interested can reply here... Later, tweedy.
